One Month With Olivia Ronnie

This post is a little late but I actually had it written on time, getting the photos together isn’t my strong suit at the moment.

This first month with Olivia has been amazing. She is the cutest little thing and we love her so much. I kept random notes throughout the month of things I want to remember.

  • The very first night we had Olivia in our hospital room she was wide awake around 11 pm. Dave was sleeping soundly and I stared at our little girl for at least an hour until she got hungry, ate and fell asleep. She is the most precious thing to ever happen to me.
  • We started off sleeping in shifts because Olivia hated her bassinet. Even though it was the middle of the night, I loved those special moments sitting on the sofa watching movies. This only lasted a week because she got used to her bassinet, but it was really special for me.
  • We had three weeks with Dave at home and those three weeks as a family will always be so perfect.
  • Most walks start off really nice but they sometimes end with Dave either carrying the carseat and swinging it or one of us carrying Olivia.

Size: Last week Olivia was 8 lbs and 11 ounces. She had lost a pound since birth, so they doctor was really happy to see she had gained that pound plus more! She is also at least an inch longer, at her last appointment she was 21 inches, but we can visibly see her clothes getting tighter lengthwise. She’s still in newborn clothes and diapers and can’t fit into any of her 0-3 month clothes yet.

Eating: Breastfeeding is going really well! From the start she latched really well but couldn’t make it longer than 5 minutes without falling asleep. We’re over that now and she eats for 30 minutes sometimes!

Sleep: Most nights go well! We go to bed between 10:30-11:30, Olivia wakes up again around 3 then 5 and anytime between 6:30-8 to be up for the morning.

Routines: We have a bedtime and middle of the night routine right now but that is pretty much it. Bedtime is both of us changing her into a onesie, putting on the owlet, and swaddling before eating. During the night, we take turns sleeping next to the bassinet to soothe her throughout the night if she needs it. Dave always wakes up to change her diaper then passes her off to me for a feeding. This has worked out really well for us and Olivia seems to like it as well!

Loves: Sleeping on chests, always being held, baths, being in a wrap while we attempt to do things.

Dislikes: She hated her bassinet at first, sleeping without a swaddle (can’t wait to see how that transition goes), her carseat, having her diaper changed

Milestones: Rolling over to her side (since she was 3 days old!), incredible neck control

Favorite products: Swaddle pods, Milk Snob carseat cover and the Boppy pillow! More favorite products coming later this week!

This months adventures: Olivia went to the polls to vote for the first time, had her first Wednesday night family dinner, went to Target multiple times, celebrated Father’s Day with daddy, attended two walkthroughs for wedding planning clients, and went to Springfield Winery.

Nicknames: Still Olivia for now, neither of us have started calling her anything else.

Dear Olivia:

You’re here! I still can’t wrap my head around the fact that I am a mom, and I probably never will. We have such a special relationship already and I love watching you grow everyday- all the while wishing you could stay little forever. It was great having your dad with us for three weeks but I am really enjoying this time we have together just the two of us.

The sleepless nights, constant loads of laundry and non-existent routine are worth it just to spend my days and nights with you. We’re in for a lifetime of adventure and this is only the beginning. I love you.
