Exploring Rome, Italy And All It’s Wonder

Rome,Italy

I am finally sitting down at my desk and starting the series about our honeymoon! I planned on leaving this until the end of my wedding Wednesday posts, but I don’t want to wait any longer to share about this amazing experience. I have big plans to turn start with recaps of each beautiful location, and then slowly create a city guide for each location. I want to share information about the location, things to do, places to stay, where to stay and general tips we found out about each place. But the best place to start is with a recap of our first few days!

Several weeks ago I did hint at our first stop during out honeymoon…Rome! I shared the best way to see the city and most of the historic locations in 24 hours, and it really is totally possible. Thankfully, we had almost 3 days to enjoy this beautiful city, and I would go back for more in a heartbeat.

Living in Baltimore, we are extremely blessed to have 4 airports incredibly close. Dulles and Reagan in DC are about one hour away and the other an hour and a half. In the other direction we have Philadelphia International, which is about an hour and 45 minutes, but hardly the amount of traffic as DC. We also have BWI 25 minutes away, which is AMAZING, especially for traveling around America.

We opted for Philly for this trip, and it worked out really well. We got there really early (because I am that type of person), grabbed a spot in a restaurant and worked for a little while. When it was time to board the plane, I could of cried…we were husband and wife AND going to ROME! I never imagined going to Europe, let alone going for a second time. The world seems so much smaller when you start traveling, but then it also seems out of reach to an extent. Our seats were the last row of a huge plane, which meant we had a lot of extra space. It also wasn’t a full flight, PERFECTION.

Once we arrived, I was in awe. We opted to take the train into the city from the airport, which wasn’t a problem. Once we arrived to the train station, we got a taxi to our hotel. There were so many tiny alleyways, I had no idea where we were going. I just looked out of the window and tried not to cry, we were really in Rome! Now that I am Italian by marriage, this was pretty cool.

We didn’t even want to take the time to relax in our room. We quickly changed our clothes and were out the door. It was amazing being able to walk everywhere. We didn’t need to take another taxi until we were heading back to the train station. At first we just walked, we wanted to get the feel for the areas and then figure out where to go. The first thing we stumbled upon were the Spanish Steps, it was so amazing to see them in person.

We just kept walking around and taking in all of the sights. We would stop every now and then for gelato, or photos. There are so many amazing places throughout this city, and it is hard to put it into words, so hopefully these photos of our first day in Rome show some of its beauty.

My eye spots something nautical from a mile away…we totally would have had dinner here if there wasn’t a long wait.

We ended our first day with a bottle of wine, and some amazing food. But more of that to come in another post. I am going to try and post every Monday (aka ‘Moon Monday) about this incredible trip.
