From Here To There: A Weekend In Boston
When had a weekend in Boston 3 years ago (so please excuse the photos, or lack thereof), I had just started dabbling in blogging, therefore I never got around to actually writing about our trip. Some of the smaller details have faded from my memory, but the days we spent there are ingrained in my head because we had such a fun time. We are really thankful to live in such a great location in the United States. We can drive 1.5 hours in either direction and be in a different state, 3 hours to New York City, 2.5 hours to the beach, and 2 hours to the mountains.
Just a few hours passed New York City is Boston, Massachusetts. A place I never really yearned to go (mainly because of their football team) until I met Dave and we talked about all of the trips we wanted to go on. As we looked up things to do for a road trip, we settled on Boston and Rhode Island. We woke up bright and early on Black Friday and headed north. Driving straight through, it would have taken about 7 hours. But we wanted to cross off the other states we drove through as well, so we made sure to stop for breakfast in Connecticut.
Once we arrived, we checked in to our hotel, which was right along the waterfront and it was beautiful! We dropped off our bags, (I) grabbed a coffee, and were off to explore. The train stop was right across the street from our hotel, so we took that further downtown.
Our first stop was Beacon Hill. These houses, and the cobblestone streets were gorgeous! We wandered around for a little while, just talking and desiring where to go next. Since it was Thanksgiving weekend, I remember walking by houses with families gathered around the table, children were playing football in the small parks that we all around, and it just felt so quaint. The charm of this area filled the streets, it was so amazing.
We went towards Boston Commons to the Frog Pond ice rink, and I talked Dave into going skating. He used to play hockey, so a crowded rink with people that have no idea what they were doing, didn’t seem like the most fun experience. He sucked it up and we skated for a while, once it started to get dark, the lights came on and it was magical.
By this time we were really ready to eat, and Quincy Market was calling our name. We lucked out and grabbed a table after only a few minutes of searching. We took turns going to get something to eat, and people watched while we had dinner. This was such a unique place, full of families, couples, and groups of friends taking a break from the chilly weather.
After dinner we explored the Faneuil Hall marketplace shops, watched the trees dance and twinkle to the music, and stopped in Cheers for a beer…because well, you have to. I was so excited to find Ravens ornaments inside of the Christmas store! After some shopping and a few more drinks, we decided to get a bottle of wine and make our way back to the hotel. Have I mentioned how thankful I am for other states that sell wine in convince stores? Thank you, Walgreens!
The next day we wanted to explore a different part of town, so we started at Fenway and went towards Newbury street. It was a really beautiful day, and most of the shops had drinks and appetizers out for Small Business Saturday. We decided to have lunch in this area as well, before we decided to do one last activity in Boston.
For a mid-afternoon cocktail we headed to The Ice Bar. While I had heard of these before, I had never been to one. I imagined they are better to go to when it isn’t already freezing outside, but we did it anyway and had a blast. The drinks weren’t amazing, but the inside was so cool, and our glasses were made of ice! It was a fun way to end our weekend in Boston and prep us for the drive to Rhode Island!
A few things I would like to do if we go back is visit Harvard, check out the Boston Library, and go on a boat tour.
Have you ever been to Boston?
Now I have a wonderful gal to introduce you all to! Ashley from Ashley Lamar is one of the sweetest bloggers I have “met” through this space. Our very first encounter was when I messed something up with my blog and she helped me get everything right. She seriously took time out of her own day to help me, someone she had never talked with before. I knew from that point forward that she was one of the genuine ones. We have shared heartfelt emails, fun comments, and learned more about each other through our blogs and I can’t wait to get to know her more.
A few years ago, Ashley had a company for editing, reviewing, setting up book tours, and more….then she moved. BUT the best news is, she is back at it again! I am so excited for her and her husband and this new (old) business venture. I hear there will even be publishing soon! If you want to learn more, check out her services here! Now onto the interview portion of this whole thing 😉
