Using Instagram Efficiently: Finding The Best Travel Hashtags

Last week I mentioned that I am attempting to get better at using social media for blogging, making friends and having better communication with the social world around me. I also shared some general tips on using Instagram More Efficiently, and now I am back to talk about hashtags. Hashtags are a big part of how you use Instagram, I have found some amazing people through popular hashtags and I am excited to share some of my favorites and most popular ones I use. This will be a series of posts covering travel, everyday life, having a colorful eye, and a few others. If there are any other adventures or hashtags you have to add, I would love to hear them!

Lets get to it…using travel hashtags. There are SO many to pick from which makes it difficult to pick which ones are the best, or most interactive. I find myself clicking through travel hashtags the most, so I think I was able to put together a pretty good list.

The biggest thing to remember is that if your photo doesn’t fit the overall theme of the hashtag, don’t use it. There will always be a few, or several, hashtags that actually do fit your photo, so don’t stress!

1- hashtag your destination/location. 

#NYC | #Paris | #Tokyo | #Bali 

2- use a hashtag to describe travel. There are several highly used hashtags for this category, choosing a few is fine.

#travel | #tourist | #vacation | #travelblogger

#travelgram | #instatravel | #adventure

3- get creative. this is where my random searching has led me. I love when I stumble upon creative travel photos, and most of them are found with some of the following hashtags

#FromWhereIStand | #WeEatWorld | #IPulledOverForThis | #NatGeoTravelPic
#BeautifulDestinations | #AdventureAnywhere

4- niched travel hashtags. These hashtags were created by some larger creative companies or bloggers.

#ABMTravelBug | #ThePrettyPursuit

5- research Instagram accounts for your destinations. For example if you are going to Ireland there are a few pages geared towards all things Ireland, and they use their own hashtags. You also have the chance to be featured if your photo is found by using these hashtags.

6- now for my favorite thing about hashtags…creating your own! I love being able to click on a hashtag and see pages of photos all related to something I have done, a trip I have taken, or a day spent with friends. I mentioned this last week, and it deserves to be mentioned again because I think it is so important. For our honeymoon we used a specific hashtag, and then we started using two others for trips that we take.
