Adventures In Rome, Italy | Part II
Last week I shared the first day of our honeymoon in Rome, Italy and now I’m excited to share the rest of our time in this absolutely captivating city. After a great start to sightseeing as soon we we arrived, we did head to bed a little early in order to wake up as soon as the sun was rising the following day. We had heard that the lines get pretty long to see the colosseum, and we wanted to see as much as we could that day.
We got to the Colosseum about 20 minutes after it opened, and waited in line for around 20 minutes. It looked a lot longer than it was, and it wasn’t very organized. If there had been a single line, it would have went a little faster. We were able to see glimpses of the Colosseum the day before, but actually standing right there was unbelievable. I couldn’t believe I could actually touch something that I had read about so often. Being able to see something so historical is a very crazy feeling.
Once we were inside, we were directed through a security screening and then allowed to roam inside of the walls. The basement level and the upper level are reserved for tours only, which we opted not to do because we prefer to go at our own pace. I don’t really have any regrets in this. We walked around for about an hour, starting from the inside and working our way around the different layers of walls. It was really cool to see the Arco di Constantino from above.
After wandering around this area, we took the metro to Vatican City. It was a short ride, and much cheaper than a taxi. We planned on walking around the outside of The Vatican, but after talking to a group sales person decided to take the tour. We spent about 30 euros each and had a guided tour (in English), were able to skip all of the lines, and we could see everything. I am so thankful for not skipping this opportunity. Everything was absolutely amazing, and again so crazy to have the history at your finger tips.
Once our tour ended, we took the metro back over to the area of the Pantheon, and walked around for a while. We eventually made our way back to the hotel and had a nice dinner across the street. As we were looking on the wine list, we found one called Coda di Volpe…our last name is a type of wine!!! Of course we had to get it, thankfully it was delicious! After our amazing dinner, we went back to the hotel for some drinks and then packed up to leave in the early morning for our cruise!
Since I can’t get enough of these photos, here are some more from our 2nd day!
