Perfect 4 Day Itinerary for Walt Disney World in Florida
Welcome to the ultimate guide to spending 4 days in Disney over a few magical days! In this blog series, I’ll share all my top tips and tricks for making the most of your time in the parks, at the resort, and beyond. From maximizing ride opportunities to meeting your favorite characters and savoring the most delicious foods, I’ve got you covered. Get ready for an unforgettable Disney experience!
Before we jump in, what makes me the right person to provide this advice? I’m a current Walt Disney World Annual Passholder (meaning we have season passes), I live within a few hour’s drive from Lake Buena Vista and Bay Lake (where Disney is located- near Orlando and Kissimmee), and we are in the parks every few weeks, usually for several days at a time.
Even before I became a Florida resident, we usually visited Disney once a month, so I totally understand the travel via plane, train and automobile when it comes to getting to Disney. It’s our happy place, and we can say that because we have narrowed down how we plan our vacations to have as little stress as possible while maximizing the Disney magic.
Hi there! Just a heads up- if you click on a link within this post I may receive a small commission. I appreciate your support of To Travel & Beyond and hope to bring you great recommendations for many years to come!
Throughout this post, I plan to share details about each park, how I would spend 4 days in Disney if it was my first visit or a returning visit, the best views for family photos, and itineraries to cover a variety of experiences. In most cases, Disney days are long, full days. You want to be prepared with that expectation. However, there are ways to make it seem less daunting.
If you are familiar with the parks and are here specifically looking for itineraries, head to the bottom of the post!
The Parks
There are four Walt Disney World theme parks and two water parks. Before arriving, I highly recommend you read through this list of each park and figure out if it sounds like an experience fit for your family. If a park doesn’t sound like a smash hit- that’s fine! You can either skip it altogether or hop to/from it- more on this later.

While there is technically something for everyone, I will throw in my personal opinion here…this is my least favorite park out of the 4 in Walt Disney World. Before heading to a Disney water park- check to see which one is open during your visit! Usually, one will close for refurbishment while the other is open. With only 4 days in Disney World, you may not be able to hit a water park- but it ‘s a great option if this isn’t your first trip!
Blizzard Beach
This water park is known for its wintry ski resort theme. It features a variety of water slides and attractions for all ages, including Summit Plummet, one of the tallest and fastest freefall body slides in the world. The park also offers a lazy river, a wave pool, and a special area for younger children called Tike’s Peak. With its unique theming and exciting water attractions, Blizzard Beach is an ideal destination for cooling off and having fun in a unique winter wonderland setting.

The Tickets
You have a few options when it comes to purchasing tickets for Walt Disney World.
1 Park Per Day Ticket
Gives you entry into one park for one day. For example, if you start at Magic Kingdom in the morning, that is the only park you can visit on that day.
Disney World Park Hopper Ticket
A Park Hopper ticket allows guests to visit multiple theme parks in one day. This means that you can start your day at one park and then hop to another park later in the day, giving you the flexibility to experience different attractions, shows, and dining options across the parks. It’s a great option for guests who want to maximize their time and see as much as possible during their visit. An example would be starting in Magic Kingdom and then riding the monorail over to Epcot in the evening! Or even hitting all four parks in one day!
Water Park and Sports Tickets
You can visit one park for each day of your ticket, a water park for one or more days, play a round of mini golf, or visit the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
Park Hopper Plus Tickets
Gives you access to park hop, plus the water park and sports ticket inclusions as well!
Your Perfect Resort
Your resort will play a large part in your overall Disney experience. You have a few options for accommodations for your Disney vacation. You could stay on-site at a Disney resort, stay at a Good Neighbor hotel, stay at a non-disney hotels, or stay at a vacation rental. I recommend a Disney resort, though other accommodation types may be a better option for your family.
Are you trying to decide which Disney resort is best for your family?
Download the Ultimate Guide to Walt Disney World Resorts today to get detailed descriptions of each resort, a worksheet to determine which one is the best fit for your family, and everything you need to know about Disney transportation from resorts!
Staying at a Disney resort will allow you early theme park entry, which used to be known as Extra Magic Hours, and gives you at least 30 minutes in each park every day of your stay before it opens to the public. This is a major win and a great time to knock out several rides in the morning!
The Ideal 4 Days in Disney World Itineraries
A four-day Disney vacation is generally considered one of the shorter stays, but you can make it work! After determining your priorities from the list above, I suggest following one of the itinerary options below to make the most of your four days. Keep in mind that this does not include a travel day to start but does end with travel home.
Ideally, for each of these itineraries, you would have park hoppers, stay onsite at a Walt Disney World resort for early entry, and either fly home from Orlando International Airport (MCO) or drive home. I also recommend “rope dropping,” which means being at the park at the time it opens.
The Itinerary For Families with Young Kids
The goal here is to reduce the time spent in long lines, focus on breaks throughout the day, go to the park for rope drop to get a head start on the day, have a magical time, with 3-day tickets and purchase lightning lanes for two days.
Day One- Magic Kingdom with Lightning Lane Reservations
The example below gives you an idea of how to spend each day in the parks.
3 Lightning Lane Advance reservations: Peter Pan, Tiana’s Adventure, Adventures of Pooh

- by 6:30pm: Grab dinner at Pinocchio Village Haus; upstairs is often empty to give you room to spread out!
- Ride each of the lighting lane rides and book: Pirates of the Caribbean, Meet the Princesses, Meet Mickey at Town Square
- by 7:30pm: Have a plan for the fireworks. If you want to watch them, I recommend watching from the area by the Rapunzel bathrooms or in front of the entrance to Barnstormer. If you are interested in the full experience, including the illuminations of the castle, head to Main Street!
- by 10pm: call it a night!
Day Two- Epcot and Hollywood Studios with Lightning Lane Reservations

Day Three – Resort Day and Disney Springs
After two long days in the parks, day three is the sweet spot for having a more restful day, especially when traveling with kids! I recommend starting with breakfast at your resort, spending a few hours at the pool, and heading to Disney Springs for an early dinner.
Day Four – Animal Kingdom, then travel home
- 7 am: Rope drop Animal Kingdom (the park is usually the earliest to open)
- by 7:30 am: ride Flight of Passage if your family is interested- this line queues up very quickly so make this your first stop
- The remainder of the day can usually be slower-paced with minimal waits for the first few hours.
- I recommend the Kilimanjaro Safari, where you can see both the Finding Nemo and Festival of the Lion King show, and give your kids as much time as they want in the Boneyard playground.
Time to head home- I hope it was a wonderful vacation 🙂
The Itinerary For An Adult Disney Trip
The goal with this 4 days in Disney itinerary is to have a minimal wait for thrill rides, focus on adult activities, go to your favorite parks but not all parks, have ample time to wander and enjoy the parks, have two-day tickets and relax on the last day before heading home.
Day One- Epcot all day!
This is the only way to start the adult trip, in my opinion, but it will be a long day!
- 7 am: virtual queue for Cosmic Rewind
- by 8:30 am: Rope drop EPCOT, with Remy as your first ride
- If you are interested in rides, I suggest this order first thing in the morning, and Cosmic Rewind whenever your group is called: Frozen Ever After, Test Track, Soarin’, Mission: Space
- by 11am: Festival booths will start to open if there is a festival, and it’s time to start drinking and snacking around the world. Depending on your personal opinion, start in either Canada or Mexico- most go Mexico because that is “the way”, but if you look at the Epcot passports, Canada is first.
- The only goal for the rest of the day: try something (a drink or snack!) from every country in the world showcase. If there is a festival, pay attention to the concert in the America Pavillon, it might be a band you enjoy!
- If you last until the end of the day, Epcot usually have a cool light show to end the night!
Day Two- Resort day & Disney Resorts monorail crawl
- Spend the day at your resort pool before getting ready to monorail crawl! If you are staying on Disney property, take the resort transportation to Magic Kingdom to get started.

Tips & Tricks
- Check the park hours a few weeks in advance as you are planning, but then also the day before your arrival. Times can change within a few days.
- Think through the ticket type that will work best for your family. If Animal Kingdom or Hollywood Studios feel like a half-day park for your group, I highly recommend park hopper tickets
- Look into the lightning lane and individual lightning lane selections. The more popular rides will be available for lightning lanes to give you the best option to ride. It can be a bit confusing, so a little bit of research will help!
- Don’t be afraid to ask a Disney cast member if you have questions while in the park! They are always incredibly kind and helpful.
- Download the My Disney Experience App and get familiar with the various tabs, wait times, etc.
- You may need park reservations, so be sure to look into this before you arrive!
- While there isn’t a “best time” to visit, Disney park tickets and crowds do fluctuate a bit. I recommend early September if you can deal with a little heat, or January if you are open to it being a bit cold.
Keep in mind that you can definitely do both Walt Disney World and Universal Studios within one trip to Florida, but they are not extremely close to each other. I would allow at least 30 minutes to get between properties. They are also not affiliated with each other, so you will need separate tickets and transportation for each.
