Best Sit Down Restaurants in Disney World – Family-Friendly Guide
If you’re planning your first Disney World vacation, one of the biggest questions you’ll face is where to eat.
With hundreds of dining options across the parks, resorts, and Disney Springs, it can feel overwhelming – especially when you’re trying to plan meals your whole family will enjoy.
This guide to the best sit-down restaurants in Disney World is designed specifically for families traveling to Disney World for the first time. Below, you’ll find my top table-service (sit-down) restaurant picks, along with who each restaurant is best for, where it’s located, menu highlights, and planning tips to help you decide what’s worth booking.
Pro-tip: Sit-down restaurants in Walt Disney World are referred to as “Table Service Dining” and require advanced dining reservations, which typically open 60 days before your trip.

What Are Sit-Down Restaurants at Disney World?
Sit-down restaurants (also called table-service restaurants) offer full-service dining with a server, themed environments, and more extensive menus than quick-service locations. These meals usually take 60-90 minutes and can be a great way to slow down, cool off, and recharge during busy park days.
If you’re new to Disney dining, I recommend mixing sit-down meals with quick service to balance your time and budget. We typically limit our sit-down reservations to 1-2 per trip, and never two on the same day. You get large servings, they take longer and are generally more expensive, so we break up our dining experiences.
Best Sit Down Restaurants in Disney World for Families
This list includes many of the sit-down restaurants where I think it is worth it for a visit, with some caveats, which are mentioned in each section.
Character Dining Options
Not all character dining options are created equal, and they also aren’t available all day. Some of the best character dining restaurants only offer it for specific meals, like breakfast. So be sure to understand where you are going and when to have the experience you are hoping for.
See the details below on ‘Ohana, Topolino’s Terrace, and Cape May Cafe, all of which have character dining during a specific time period and are some of the best restaurants on property.

1900 Park Fare
This is a great option with a variety of characters, but it isn’t my favorite. It is often a bit overwhelming with how many guests are in the restaurant, in addition to all the excitement of the characters. If sensory overload is something you want to avoid, I would suggest another character dining option!

Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant
I have to be honest, this is not one of my favorites, but so many people love it! While it’s fine if you get one of the actual car tables and can face the screen, there are also standard tables throughout, which definitely take away from the experience if you dine at one of those. You are going for the experience at this one, and not the food, so it could make or break it.
Best for: Families with kids and teens, movie lovers
Location: Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Why it’s one of the best (according to others): Sci-Fi Dine-In offers a one-of-a-kind experience where you eat inside classic cars while watching vintage sci-fi movie clips.

Space 220 Restaurant
Space 220 offers one of the most immersive dining experiences in all of Walt Disney World. Guests “travel” via space elevator to a space station 220 miles above Earth, where screens simulate orbiting views of the planet below.
