Difference Between Disneyland and Disney World – Which Is Better?

Do you know the difference between Disneyland and Disney World? It’s far more than just the location within the United States. Both Disney theme park resorts are amazing, and you are sure to have the best time, but it’s helpful to know about the various differences depending on which one you visit. 

When planning a magical Disney vacation, one of the biggest decisions you’ll face is choosing between Disneyland and Disney World. While both parks offer unforgettable experiences, they have significant differences that might make one a better fit for your family.

In this guide, we’ll break down the difference between Disneyland and Disney World in terms of experience, themes, rides, resorts, technology, and more. This gives you everything you need to know before planning your vacation at either property. While some of the below are based on my opinion (like which rides are better in which park), most of the guide includes the facts about each park option. 

We are local to the Walt Disney World resort property and have learned the ins and outs, and have not spent as much time in Disneyland. However, this post is based on personal experiences as well as extensive research. I know Disney guests have an opinion on which Disney parks are better, and they aren’t wrong for their own reasons! 

The Locations & Size

The overall experience at Disneyland and Disney World differs due to their size and scope. 

Disneyland is a smaller, more compact park located in Anaheim, in Southern California. It consists of two parks: Disneyland Park and Disney’s California Adventure (more about these below!). Everything is within walking distance, making it easy to park-hop and explore. Disneyland is within the city area of Anaheim. 

Disney World in Orlando, which is in central Florida, is a massive resort complex spanning over 25,000 acres. It includes four theme parks: Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom – along with two water parks, shopping districts, golf courses, and more. Disney World is a short drive from Orlando and other nearby towns, and feels like it’s its own city amidst the vast property of 43 square miles. 

Visitors often need multiple days to experience everything Disney World has to offer. I suggest at least 4 days in Disney World!

🚨 Key Difference: If you’re looking for a shorter trip with a nostalgic, intimate feel, Disneyland may be the better choice. However, if you want a full-fledged vacation with endless things to do, Disney World in Orlando is your go-to destination.

The Theming 

Themed lands are at the heart of both parks, but they vary based on several factors. 

Disneyland embraces a classic, historical atmosphere with original attractions like Sleeping Beauty Castle and Main Street, U.S.A. Disneyland Park’s lands include Tomorrowland, Adventureland, Fantasyland, and more, while Disney California Adventure features Pixar Pier, Avengers Campus, and Cars Land.

Disney World expands on these themes with even more immersive lands. Magic Kingdom is home to Cinderella’s Castle (which is larger in size compared to Sleeping Beauty’s castle) Pandora – The World of Avatar at Animal Kingdom and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Hollywood Studios are standout additions. EPCOT offers a mix of futuristic attractions and cultural experiences in its World Showcase.

🚨 Key Difference: The main differences between Disneyland and Disney World when it comes to themes is that Disneyland retains a more traditional Disney charm, while Disney World expands on innovation and diverse storytelling. With the exception of Avengers Campus in Disneyland, in my opinion, more on this below! 

The Parks 

Disneyland Resort (California)

Disneyland Resort has two theme parks. 

Disneyland Park

• Overview: The original Disney theme park, opened in 1955, featuring classic attractions, iconic lands (Main Street, U.S.A., Adventureland, Frontierland, Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, etc.), and Sleeping Beauty Castle.
• Best for: Families with kids of all ages, Disney fans, those who love nostalgia and classic rides.
• Must-Do Attractions:
  • Pirates of the Caribbean
  • Haunted Mansion (especially during the Nightmare Before Christmas Overlay!!)
  • Space Mountain
  • Indiana Jones Adventure
  • Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance
  • It’s a Small World

Disney California Adventure

• Overview: A modern park celebrating California and Disney/Pixar stories, featuring themed lands like Avengers Campus, Cars Land, and Pixar Pier.
• Best for: Thrill-seekers, Pixar and Marvel fans, foodies, adults looking for a relaxed atmosphere.
• Must-Do Attractions:
  • Radiator Springs Racers
  • Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout! (previously, Tower of Terror)
  • Incredicoaster
  • WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure
  • Soarin’ Around the World

Walt Disney World (Florida)

Walt Disney World has four theme parks and two water parks. 

Theme Parks:

Magic Kingdom

• Overview: The most iconic park, home to Cinderella Castle and classic Disney magic with six themed lands (Main Street, Adventureland, Frontierland, Liberty Square, Fantasyland, Tomorrowland).
• Best for: First-time visitors, families with young kids, Disney fans who love classic attractions. 
• Must-Do Attractions:
  • TRON Lightcycle / Run
  • Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
  • Haunted Mansion
  • Pirates of the Caribbean
  • Jungle Cruise
  • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

EPCOT

• Overview: A mix of future technology, culture, and international flavors, split into World Showcase (global pavilions) and World Celebration, World Discovery, and World Nature. Read all about Epcot’s areas, festivals and more!

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

• Overview: Focuses on movies, TV, and immersive lands like Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Toy Story Land.
• Best for: Star Wars fans, thrill-seekers, movie lovers.
• Must-Do Attractions:
  • Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance
  • Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run
  • Tower of Terror
  • Slinky Dog Dash
  • Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

• Overview: A unique combination of a theme park and a zoo, with lush landscapes and immersive lands like Pandora – The World of Avatar. The only park with an emphasis on real-life animals. 
• Best for: Animal lovers, adventure-seekers, nature enthusiasts.
• Must-Do Attractions:
  • Avatar Flight of Passage
  • Expedition Everest
  • Kilimanjaro Safaris
  • Festival of the Lion King (live show)

Water Parks:

The Disney World water parks rotate which is open depending on the season.

Pro Tip: If you are staying at a Walt Disney World resort you get FREE entry into a Disney World water park on your arrival day!  

Blizzard Beach

• Overview: A ski-resort-themed water park, with nods to Frozen, with a mix of thrilling slides and family-friendly attractions.
• Best for: Families, thrill-seekers who enjoy water slides.
• Top Attractions:
  • Summit Plummet (one of the tallest, fastest water slides in the world)
  • Cross Country Creek (lazy river)
  • Toboggan Racers

Typhoon Lagoon

• Overview: A tropical-storm-themed water park with a large wave pool and water coasters.
• Best for: Beach lovers, families, guests looking for relaxation and adventure.
• Top Attractions:
  • Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool (one of the largest wave pools in the world)
  • Crush ‘n’ Gusher (water coaster)
  • Miss Adventure Falls

🚨 Key Difference: The major difference here is the overall size. Disneyland has two parks and a smaller overall size, Disney World is expansive and has multiple parks with space in between. 

All About The Rides

Both parks feature iconic rides, but Disney World boasts more attractions due to its size. Some rides, like Pirates of the Caribbean and Space Mountain, exist in both parks but have slight variations. 

Unique rides at Disneyland include:

• Matterhorn Bobsleds in the Disneyland park
• Radiator Springs Racers in the California Adventure park. This is a similar style track and car compared to Test Track in Epcot, but far superior! The Cars theming is on point! 
• Incredicoaster has a somewhat similar track to Rockin’ Rollercoaster, though it’s a full outdoor coaster 
• Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage 

Exclusive rides at Disney World include:

• Flight of Passage: Pandora – The World of Avatar
• Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
• Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
• Expedition Everest 
• TRON Lightcycle / Run 

Rides Found in Both Disneyland and Disney World with Differences

1. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
   • Disneyland: Has a more detailed story, better special effects (such as a dynamite explosion scene), and smoother track design.
   • Disney World: Slightly longer ride but lacks some of the extra effects found in Disneyland’s version. However, Disney World is getting an updated Big Thunder Mountain right now, we will see what changes!
2. Dumbo the Flying Elephant
   • Disneyland: Features a single Dumbo ride.
   • Disney World: Has two spinning carousels, reducing wait times.
3. Haunted Mansion
   • Disneyland: Receives a unique overlay during the Halloween and Christmas season for Nightmare Before Christmas. This overlay is INCREDIBLE if you are able to see it! Otherwise, the Haunted Mansion also features a different exterior design, resembling a Southern plantation.
   • Disney World: Has a gothic-style mansion and an extended queue experience with interactive elements.
4. It’s a Small World
   • Disneyland: The façade is grander, with an outdoor clock tower and Disney characters incorporated into the ride.
   • Disney World: Located indoors with a smaller entrance, and lacks the character additions.
5. Jungle Cruise
   • Disneyland: A slightly shorter version of the ride with a few differences in animatronics.
   • Disney World: Features an indoor temple scene that is not present in Disneyland’s version.
6. Mad Tea Party
   • Disneyland: Open-air version with string lights above. Perfect spot for photo ops!
   • Disney World: Has a covered roof to protect guests from Florida’s frequent rain.
7. Peter Pan’s Flight
   • Disneyland: Slightly older effects, but maintains a classic charm.
   • Disney World: Recently updated with interactive queue elements and a smoother ride experience.
8. Pirates of the Caribbean
   • Disneyland: A much longer and more detailed ride with additional drops and a bayou scene with a view of the Blue Bayou restaurant at the beginning.
   • Disney World: A shorter version with fewer set pieces, but still maintains the overall experience – like the smells! 
9. Space Mountain
   • Disneyland: Features a smoother track, onboard audio music, and 2 seats next to each other. Occasionally gets overlays, such as “Hyperspace Mountain.” Such a fun vibe! 
   • Disney World: A rougher, faster ride with two separate tracks, no onboard music and three single seats in a row.
10. Splash Mountain (Now Tiana’s Bayou Adventure)

• Both versions were similar before the re-theme, but Disneyland’s version had two side-by-side seats, while Disney World’s had a single-file seating arrangement.

11. Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room

• Disneyland: The original version, directly overseen by Walt Disney, with a slightly longer runtime.
• Disney World: The same show but slightly shorter in length.

12. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh

• Disneyland: A smaller, simpler version replacing the old Country Bear Jamboree.
• Disney World: A larger and more immersive version with an interactive queue.

13. Autopia (Disneyland) / Tomorrowland Speedway (Disney World)

• Disneyland: More scenic with different track layouts and cars themed to futuristic styles.
• Disney World: A much simpler oval-style track with a slower ride experience.

14. Astro Orbiter

• Disneyland: Located at ground level in Tomorrowland.
• Disney World: Positioned on an elevated platform, providing a higher viewpoint.

Other Shared Rides Between Disneyland & Disney World

15. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance

• Both parks: Nearly identical versions of this groundbreaking Star Wars attraction. Located within Disneyland Park in California and Hollywood Studios in Florida.

16. Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run

• Both parks: The same interactive mission-style ride.

17. Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway

• Disneyland: Features a unique, more detailed queue inside the El CapiTOON Theater.
• Disney World: Located in Hollywood Studios inside the Chinese Theater, with a slightly different pre-show experience.

18. Soarin’ Around the World

• Disneyland (Disney California Adventure): The original Soarin’ ride was first introduced here as “Soarin’ Over California” before changing to “Soarin’ Around the World.”
• Disney World (EPCOT): Features the same global flight experience but with a different queue theme. Epcot usually plays “Soarin’ Around the World.”, though it did change to “Soarin’ Over California” for a few months in 2023-24 in honor of the 100 year anniversary.

19. Toy Story Midway Mania

• Disneyland (Disney California Adventure): Has a slightly different queue and entrance compared to Disney World’s version.
• Disney World (Hollywood Studios): Integrated into Toy Story Land with more theming in the area.

20. The Little Mermaid – Ariel’s Undersea Adventure

• Disneyland (Disney California Adventure): Slightly different queue theming.
• Disney World (Magic Kingdom): Has an elaborate castle façade and a more immersive queue experience.

21. Tower of Terror (re-themed in Disneyland)

• Disneyland (Disney California Adventure): The Tower of Terror is now Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout. With the same drop-tower style, but a new design and storyline. 
• Disney World (Hollywood Studios): Classic Tower of Terror. 

🚨 Key Difference: When comparing the difference between Disneyland and Disney World in terms of rides, Disneyland is ideal for those who prefer classic attractions, while Disney World provides a larger variety and more thrilling options.

The Difference Between Disneyland and Disney World Resorts

The resort experience also differs significantly, and it’s helpful to know which resorts are within which property. 

Disneyland has only three on-site hotels: Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel, Disneyland Hotel, and Disney’s Pixar Place Hotel. These are all smaller in size compared to most of the Disney World resorts, though they are all within walking distance of the parks, making Disneyland resort hotels an easy-to-navigate destination.

• Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa
  • Theme: Craftsman-style luxury with a focus on nature.
  • Includes: Direct entrance to Disney California Adventure, upscale dining like Napa Rose, pools, a spa, and club-level accommodations.
  • Location: Closest to the parks with a private entrance to Disney California Adventure.
• Disneyland Hotel
  • Theme: Classic Disney nostalgia with mid-century modern decor and themed towers.
  • Includes: Monorail-themed waterslides, themed character dining like Goofy’s Kitchen, and historical Disney memorabilia.
  • Location: A short walk to Downtown Disney and both theme parks.
• Pixar Place Hotel
  • Theme: Pixar-themed hotel with nods throughout to various Pixar movies. 
  • Includes: Rooftop pool with water slides, character dining, and Pixar-inspired touches. A walking path to a private entrance for resort guests to California Adventure. 
  • Location: A bit farther from the parks but still within walking distance.

Disneyland has a wide variety of Good Neighbor hotels, many within walking distance to the parks, which is a benefit to booking outside of these three Disney-owned hotels. 

Disney World offers over 25 resorts ranging from budget-friendly to luxury options. Guests can choose from Value Resorts like Disney’s Pop Century Resort, Moderate Resorts like Caribbean Beach Resort, or Deluxe Resorts like Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. Disney World resorts often include themed pools, character dining, and immersive storytelling experiences.

🚨 Key Difference: If staying on Disney property is important to you, the difference between Disneyland and Disney World is that Disney World provides far more accommodation choices to fit every budget and vacation style. They are also very themed and expansive, while the Disneyland resorts are more compact and subtly themed. 

In Disneyland, I don’t think you can go wrong with any hotel within walking distance from the Good Neighbor list, though if you are taking a Disney trip to Disney World, I suggest staying in one of the Disney resorts. 

Disneyland Technology vs. Disney World Technology

Disneyland and Disney World both offer convenient technology for guests, but Disney World is more advanced in this area. Our first time experiencing the technology (or lack of) in Disneyland was a bit shocking as we frequent Disney World and they have had much of their tech set up for many years. 

• Security: This seems like a small thing, but the difference between Disneyland and Disney World security was really interesting to us. In Disney World, there are many metal detectors set up where you walk through in a line, and if you are flagged, you get into a separate line to have your bag checked. While in Disneyland, every single bag was checked before going through the metal detectors. This added a lot of time, especially for families with strollers and multiple bags. We very much prefer the Disney World experience; hopefully, Disneyland will update its systems at some point! 
• Entrance Gates: Disney World has a quick scanning system where you hold your ticket, phone, or magic band up to the scanner and it blinks green once accepted, from there you walk into the park. In Disneyland, cast members scan each ticket and take a photo of each guest, and then you are able to go through the turnstiles. This caused confusion with the stroller entrance as well as slowed down the line as the cast member can only scan one person at a time. 
• MagicBands: MagicBands and MagicBand+ have been available at Disney World for many years, and recently introduced to Disneyland (only MagicBand+). MagicBands allow guests to access hotel rooms, enter parks, pay for food, and more. We find them to be super convenient and worth having! 
• Disney Genie+, MultiPass and Lightning Lane: Both parks use Genie+ for ride reservations, but Disneyland’s system is slightly different, be sure to research in advance! 
• My Disney Experience App vs Disneyland App: Both parks have their own separate app. The My Disney Experience app for Walt Disney World is easy to navigate and very helpful for things like checking wait times, making reservations, and ordering food. The Disneyland app, while helpful, wasn’t as user-friendly. 

🚨 Key Difference: The big difference between Disneyland and Disney World in terms of technology is that Disney World has more digital conveniences, making trip planning more streamlined.

The Weather & Seasons

Disneyland (California)

• Climate: Disneyland, located in Anaheim, California, has a “Mediterranean climate” with mild winters and warm, dry summers.
• Summer: Highs in the 80s°F (27-32°C), but can occasionally reach the 90s. Low humidity makes it more comfortable than Florida.
• Winter: Lows in the 40s-50s°F (5-15°C), with highs in the 60s-70s°F (15-25°C).
• Rain: Most rain occurs between November and March, but it’s usually light and doesn’t impact park operations much.
• Best Times to Visit: Spring and Fall (March-May & September-November) for mild weather and lower crowds.

Walt Disney World (Florida)

• Climate: Orlando has a humid subtropical climate with hot, rainy summers and mild winters.
• Summer: Very hot and humid, with highs in the 90s°F (32-37°C) and high humidity. Afternoon thunderstorms are common.
• Winter: Lows in the 50s°F (10-15°C), with highs in the 70s°F (21-26°C). Mild and pleasant compared to other parts of the U.S.
• Rain: Afternoon rain showers are common year-round, with peak hurricane season from June to November. Storms are usually short but can be intense.
• Best Times to Visit: January-February and September-early November for cooler weather and fewer crowds.

🚨 Key Difference: Disneyland has more consistent, mild weather, while Disney World has hotter, more humid summers and a higher chance of storms.

The Transportation Differences 

Disneyland

• No Disney-operated transportation needed between parks—Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure are within walking distance of each other.
• Downtown Disney is also walkable from both parks.
• No extensive bus system like Disney World.
• The Monorail can take you from Downtown Disney to the back of Disneyland if you have a park ticket. 
• Parking: Smaller parking areas, primarily at Mickey & Friends and Pixar Pals garages. Every guest is required to pay for parking, even Magic Key holders and resort guests. 
• LAX or SNA airport shuttles/taxis/Ubers are used for transportation to and from Disneyland.

Walt Disney World

• Massive property (25,000+ acres) requires extensive transportation options.
• Complimentary Disney Transportation is available. Check out the complete guide to Walt Disney World transportation.
  • Buses connect all resorts and parks.
  • Monorail serves Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, and select resorts.
  • Skyliner (gondola system) connects EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, and some resorts. This may be my favorite form of transportation within Disney!
  • Boats provide access to certain resorts and parks.
• Driving: Many guests rent cars or use Minnie Vans, Uber, or Lyft. Parking at Walt Disney World resorts is free and parking at the parks is free for resort guests. 
• Parking: Much larger parking lots, requiring trams or long walks to park entrances.
• Walking: There are a few options to walk between resorts and parks, from the Boardwalk Resort to Epcot and Hollywood Studios for example, or the Grand Floridian to Magic Kingdom. 

🚨 Key Difference: Disneyland is compact and walkable, while Disney World requires transportation to get between most parks and resorts.

Disney Springs vs. Downtown Disney

Both Disneyland and Disney World have their own shopping and restaurant district. In these areas you will find everything from Disney stores and luxury shopping to ice cream shops and nightlife experiences. 

Downtown Disney (Disneyland)

• Smaller, single shopping and dining district next to the parks.
• Features shops like World of Disney, the LEGO Store, and popular dining spots like Ballast Point Brewing and Naples Ristorante.
• Limited nightlife compared to Disney Springs.
• No ticket required for entry.

Disney Springs (Walt Disney World)

• Much larger than Downtown Disney, with multiple themed sections (Marketplace, The Landing, Town Center, and West Side).
• More dining options, including The Boathouse, Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’, and Morimoto Asia. There are plenty of happy hours in Disney Springs! 
• More shopping, including high-end brands like Uniqlo, Lily Pulitzer, Kate Spade, and LEGO Store.
• Entertainment options like the Aerophile balloon ride, AMC Theaters, and Cirque du Soleil’s “Drawn to Life”.

🚨 Key Difference: Disney Springs is larger and has more variety, while Downtown Disney is more compact and convenient for a quick visit.

Difference Between Disneyland and Disney World Ticket Prices

Ticket prices are subject to change and seem to change frequently, especially with the fluctuating system, depending on date and park. Please keep in mind that these are the prices for theme park tickets as of the time of writing this post in early 2025. 

Disneyland Ticket Prices (2025)

• 1-Day, 1-Park Ticket: Starts at $104 (varies by date, peak days go up to ~$179).
• Park Hopper Add-On: $65 extra.
• Multi-Day Tickets (Per Day Cost Lower Than 1-Day Tickets)
  • 2-Day: ~$143/day
  • 3-Day: ~$120/day
  • 5-Day: ~$86/day
• Magic Key (Annual Pass): Prices range from $499-$1,649 depending on blockout dates and benefits.

Disney World Ticket Prices (2025)

• 1-Day, 1-Park Ticket: Starts at $119 for Animal Kingdom (varies by date, peak days go up to ~$189).
• Park Hopper Add-On: $65-$85 extra.
• Multi-Day Ticket:
  • 2-Day: ~$125/day
  • 5-Day: ~$104/day
  • 10-Day: ~$63/day
• Disney World Annual Passes: Start at $439 (Florida residents) and go up to $1,449 (Incredi-Pass, no blockout dates).

🚨 Key Difference: Disneyland tickets are slightly cheaper, but Disney World has more parks and attractions for the price.

Dining Options In Each Park

Disneyland Dining

• Fewer table-service restaurants, more quick-service and snack-based options.
• Signature dining includes Blue Bayou (inside Pirates of the Caribbean), Carthay Circle, and Napa Rose.
• More accessible to eat outside the parks due to its smaller size.

Disney World Dining

• Hundreds of dining locations across four parks, resorts, and Disney Springs.
• Signature restaurants include Be Our Guest, Space 220, California Grill, and Victoria & Albert’s (AAA Five Diamond Award restaurant).
• More character dining options than Disneyland.

🚨 Key Difference: Disney World has more variety, while Disneyland has quicker access to outside dining.

I will admit, the snacks in Disney are amazing. I recommend a separate budget just for snacks throughout the parks and resorts! 

In Park Special Events

We LOVE a good Disney special event. It’s a great way to experience a specific park with lower crowds and specialty options. 

Disneyland Special Events

• Oogie Boogie Bash (Halloween Party)
• Disneyland After Dark Events (themed nights like Star Wars, Disney Channel night and Sweethearts’ Nite)
• Lunar New Year Celebration (Disney California Adventure)
• Food & Wine Festival (California Adventure, springtime)

Disney World Special Events

• Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party (Magic Kingdom)
• Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party (Magic Kingdom)
• Jollywood Nights in Hollywood Studios 
• EPCOT’s Festivals (Food & Wine, Flower & Garden, Festival of the Arts, Festival of the Holidays)
• Disney After Hours events (low-crowd, late-night access to parks)

Each park has nearby airports, making getting to the property convenient. I’s nice to have as many options as Disneyland! 

Disneyland Airports

• John Wayne Airport (SNA) – Closest (~15 miles, ~20 minutes)
• Los Angeles International (LAX) – 34 miles, ~45 minutes+ depending on traffic
• Long Beach Airport (LGB) – 20 miles, ~30 minutes

Disney World Airports

• Orlando International Airport (MCO) – 18 miles, ~30 minutes | Check out the guide to transportation from MCO to Disney World for the best options. 
• Sanford Airport (SFB) – ~50 miles, ~1 hour

🚨 Key Difference: Disneyland has multiple airport options, but LAX traffic can be unpredictable, while Disney World guests almost always fly into MCO.

Disneyland vs. Disney World: Which One Should You Visit?

Still deciding between Disneyland and Disney World? Here are some factors to consider:

• Time: Disneyland is great for a short trip, while Disney World requires more time to explore.
• Location: This plays a significant factor into many families’ decisions. Disneyland may be the better option if you are based in or closer to the West Coast, but if you are closer to the East Coast, Walt Disney World may be calling your name!
• Budget: Disneyland trips can be more affordable due to fewer days needed, but Disney World offers more resort options at different price points.
• Variety: If you want more theme parks, dining experiences, and entertainment, Disney World is the better choice.
• Nostalgia: If you love Walt Disney’s original park, Disneyland offers that classic Disney feel. Thought it’s not lacking in Walt Disney World.
• Disney Theme Parks: Take a look at the above list and compare the points mentioned about each of the theme parks, are there specific rides or attractions that stick out to you in either Disneyland or Disney World?
• Favorite Disney Characters: While most of the popular characters are in both parks, there are a few who are unique to Disneyland or Disney World. I also found that the characters offer a different experience. In Disneyland, many characters were out and about walking around, while in Disney World, it’s more of an organized meet and greet for most interactions. 

The difference between Disneyland and Disney World comes down to personal preferences. Whether you choose Disneyland’s charm or Disney World’s vast experiences, you’re guaranteed to have a magical vacation!

As a reminder, our “home parks” are Walt Disney World, though we are a true Disney family and love it all! There are a few key differences between Disneyland and Disney World, but both parks offer a chance to make amazing memories on your next vacation. 

Tips For Visiting Either Disney Resort Property

• Check the refurbishment schedule. Rides, attractions, resorts, and transportation methods often close for refurbishment throughout the year. It’s helpful to look into the schedule for the park once you decide to plan your vacation. 
• Understand MultiPass. If this is your once in a lifetime Disney trip, I highly recommend using MultiPass. It’s an additional cost but will give you the best chance at riding and experiencing everything you may want to do while in the parks. It isn’t very easy to use though so I suggest watching a few YouTube videos before your trip! 
• Make a list of the best rides. Both Disneyland and Disney World have amazing ride experiences, be sure to look into the ride options and determine which ones are a priority for you. You may not want to miss the queue by using a Lightning Lane! 
• Look into the Virtual Queues. Disney will use a Virtual Queue system for rides at certain times. For example, when new rides open, they will use Virtual Queue to keep the actual line from getting to several hours long. There may or may not be a virtual queue during your travel dates, so check prior to arrival! 
• Disney vs Universal Studios Hollywood & Universal Studios Orlando. I feel like it should be mentioned that Harry Potter and the Wizarding World is not in either Disneyland or Disney World. Harry Potter is a Universal franchise and will only be found in their parks, not in the Disney parks. 
• Be thoughtful in packing. I don’t suggest “winging it” when it comes to packing for your trip to Disney. There are specific items that will make your trip even better. Be sure to check out the packing list for Disneyland and the packing list for Disney World.
