Girls Trip 2016: Myrtle Beach & Tree Hill
Last summer a group of 8 girls got together to celebrate my bachelorette party and friendships were instantly made. I absolutely loved watching my closest friends chatting and getting along so well. I have first hand experienced bachelorette parties where nobody got along, or even attempted to become actual friends, and not that you have to do that, but it was amazing witnessing it with my friends.
It’s not often that you can bring strangers together, some people with previous history, and girls from across the country and have everyone get along perfectly. But, that is what happened. The day after my bachelorette, we started talking about making this girls trip a yearly thing, and then started really planning it at the beginning of this year. While not everyone could make it because of prior commitments, being so far away, and other things, 4 of us were able to make it happen.
Last Thursday, I picked up two of my friends, Gina and Jenn, and we drove to Raleigh to stay with Cara for a night. A quick intro to 3 of my favorite ladies- I met Gina in 8th grade, Jenn in 9th grade and Cara 3 years ago. I love them all so much and couldn’t go a day without them in my life. From always texting, helping each other through rough times and then cheering on each other from near or far, every girl needs these kinds of friends.
The four of us woke up at 6am, packed the car and were off to Myrtle Beach. We went to the beach as soon as we arrived and hung out until our room was ready which was after 4pm. Some of us took naps and then we got ready for our first night on the town. We headed to Broadway at the Beach, had an entertaining dinner at Señor Frogs, watched the fireworks over the promenade, and then danced the night away at Malibu’s. We all had such a great night and it was so needed for all of us.
The next day was a slower start but we went to the beach, relaxed in the pool, and then headed to dinner at Barefoot Landing. This was a more low key night because we had a big day planned for Sunday along with a 9-hour drive. If you were a fan of One Tree Hill, you are probably familiar with Wilmington, NC being the location of the show. We realized it was only 20 minutes out of our way heading back to Raleigh, and we made it work.
We made it to Wilmington and cried tears of joy. It was so surreal being there and taking in all of the sights directly from the show. I am going to do an entire post about this, so I won’t ruin anything, but if you are ever in the area, I highly suggest visiting. We want to go back and do a guided tour at some point because it felt like we were in the show, and there is so much more to see. In honor of the greatest weekend, we even got tattoos!
As we were all chatting about One Tree Hill, one of us suggested getting matching tattoos to represent the show, and we actually did it! We found a tattoo place that was open on Sunday, right in the middle of downtown, walked in and they had openings for all 4 of us! Me, Gina and Jen all got a 23, which is Nathan’s number, and Cara got Lehrer in memory of her grandfather since she is not a fan of the show.
It was the most perfect weekend with some of my best friends and we are already talking about our next adventure. I think we might have to start doing this more than once a year! I’m so thankful to have these 3 in my life and spending a weekend with them was just what I needed.
I didn’t plan on making this vlog public, but figured why not. It’s not the best edited, but it’s more for our memories rather than to show our travels.
