Guide to A Disney World Christmas 2025 – Parks & Events
It’s no secret that we love Disney World, but let me tell you, we really love Disney World during Christmas!
If you’re dreaming of a magical family vacation during the most wonderful time of the year, visiting Walt Disney World during the holiday season is an unforgettable experience.
From sparkling Christmas lights on Main Street, U.S.A. to special events like Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party and Disney Jollywood Nights, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
This complete guide to a Disney World Christmas vacation will cover everything your family needs to know about the holiday season at Disney World – from when the Christmas decorations go up to where you can find Santa Claus, the best time to visit, and what to expect at each of the Walt Disney World theme parks.
When Does Disney World Decorate for Christmas?
Holiday magic begins in early November, just after Halloween. Cast Members work (almost) overnight to transform the parks and Disney resort hotels into a winter wonderland filled with Christmas trees, garlands, and twinkling lights.
While Magic Kingdom is decorated almost immediately after Halloween, other parks like EPCOT, Animal Kingdom, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios typically complete their holiday decorations by the second week of November.
The good news is that by mid-late November, the entire resort is in full holiday celebration mode – and the Christmas decorations remain up through early January.
In 2025, these are my estimates based on the last several years, as Disney doesn’t usually release the actual dates.
Magic Kingdom: decorated by November 2nd
Hollywood Studios & Animal Kingdom: decorated by November 15th
Epcot: fully in festive mode by November 28th as that’s when Festival of the Holidays begins. Last year, most of Epcot was decorated by November 16th, but the festival booths were still Food & Wine themed.
Resorts: usually completed and decorated by mid-November. I estimate November 20th this year.
Disney World Christmas Special Events
There are a few special events which take place in Walt Disney World during the holiday season. These events are ticketed and at an additional cost, but can be a great way to experience something different, festive, and more focused on shorter lines and a fun experience.

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Magic Kingdom
We have attended MVMCP and it’s such a fun and festive treat. Unlike the Halloween party, I am team go to this party as early in the season as possible. The crowds only get stronger as Christmas gets closer.
The Christmas Party Dates for this year fall between November 7th – December 21st, 2025.
Held on select nights in November and December, Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is one of the most beloved holiday specials at Disney World. Guests can experience:
- The Christmastime Parade, featuring Disney characters, dancing reindeer, and Santa himself
- The Jingle Cruise – a festive overlay of the classic Jungle Cruise ride
- Try various types of cookies and hot cocoa, which are handed out throughout the park
- Exclusive holiday entertainment and fireworks to end the night
These evenings at Magic Kingdom, watching the Christmas Parade are pure holiday joy, but note that the event often sees sold-out nights – so it’s best to book your tickets early.
Outside of the Christmas party, you will find a few ways to still celebrate the holiday season in Magic Kingdom.
Frozen Holiday Surprise, where Anna and Elsea join their friends to transform Cinderellas Castle each night.
Disney Jollywood Nights at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Disney’s Hollywood Studios sparkles during the holidays with Disney Jollywood Nights, a newer holiday celebration that combines vintage Hollywood glamour with festive fun.
While we haven’t yet attended Jollywood Nights, I’ve heard it’s a great experience if you are looking for a fancier event compared to MVMCP…aka Disney Adults.
This special ticketed event on select nights features:
- Live music, dancing, and themed cocktails
- Appearances from Disney favorites like Ariel from The Little Mermaid, Donald and Daisy, Chip and Dale, and apparently some new favorites this year!
- Photo ops in front of classic backdrops like the Chinese Theatre and the Hollywood Tower Hotel
- A story of Christmas told through lights, decor, and entertainment
I will mention that Hollywood Studios is currently under a major refurbishment, so it may be a bit less glamorous because of that.
Hollywood Studios is also decked out for day guests not attending the party. You can see the Holiday version of the Frozen Sing Along, dine with Minnie and friends in their festive best at Hollywood & Vine, and see the projections on the Tower or Terror.
EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays
If your family loves culture, storytelling, and food, the EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays is the perfect place to celebrate.
I LOVE Epcot Festivals. Truly, it’s hard for me to rank them because I love them all. There are four throughout the year and it’s worth a visit to Disney World to see all of them.
Festival of the Holidays is a fun experience to see what each country focuses on throughout the holiday season.
Running from November 28th through December 30th, 2025, this special event highlights holiday traditions from around the world with:
- Holiday Storytellers in each pavilion
- The iconic Candlelight Processional, featuring celebrity narrators who tell the story of Christmas alongside a choir and orchestra
- Delicious treats from around the world – including every type of cookie imaginable at the Holiday Cookie Stroll
Holiday Magic at Disney’s Animal Kingdom
After reading through the above, you may wonder why Animal Kingdom doesn’t get the same amount of love. I often wonder that myself- but that’s for another post.
At Disney’s Animal Kingdom, the holidays take on a natural twist. The park’s massive Tree of Life becomes the centerpiece of the holiday decorations, glowing each evening with a special projection show, Tree Awakenings Holiday.
Throughout the park, you’ll find handcrafted decor made from natural materials and even puppets of arctic animals roaming Discovery Island. It’s a great time to visit if your family enjoys a slower pace and shorter lines than other parks during Christmas week.
I love the Holiday outfits for Mickey & Minnie when you meet them at their outpost.
The Merry Menagerie is a beautiful puppet experience with handcrafted animals, usually found around the Tree of Life area.
Disney Springs Holiday Offerings
This is the best place to kick off your Disney holiday experience. It’s free and full of holiday offerings that the whole family can enjoy.
Stroll through the Christmas Tree Stroll, featuring elaborately themed Christmas trees inspired by your Disney favorites, or grab festive snacks at bakeries offering new types of cookies each year. For 2025, the stroll starts on November 12th and continues through the end of December.
Don’t miss a visit with Santa Claus (check if you need a virtual queue in the My Disney Experience app), or take in the live music outside of World of Disney. You will also see Christmas Lights all over the property; it’s magical reflected off the lake.
There are also entertainers around Disney Springs, dancing, singing, etc., and don’t miss the snow in the main promenade!
It’s truly one of the best places to spend an evening grabbing dinner, taking a stoll to look at the trees, and kicking off your vacation.
Don’t forget to check out the best happy hours in Disney Springs!
Staying at Disney Resort Hotels During the Holidays
It’s no secret that I’m all about staying on property when visiting Walt Disney World. Off-site and partner hotels offer some benefits, but you can’t beat a Disney resort- especially during Christmas.
The Disney World hotels go all out for the holidays – each Disney resort hotel has its own unique holiday decorations, and touring the properties is an experience of it’s own!
From life-sized gingerbread houses (but not in 2025) at the Grand Floridian to towering Christmas trees at Wilderness Lodge, every resort feels magical.
If you are looking for a great and festive way to spend a day during your vacation, take a Christmas Decoration resort tour!
Resort guests also always enjoy perks like early entry to the parks, which helps avoid long lines during the busy Christmas week. For us we always opt to stay at a Disney resort because of the included Disney resort benefits.
New Year’s Eve at Walt Disney World
Ringing in the New Year’s Eve at Disney World is truly special. If it isn’t your once-in-a-lifetime Disney vacation, I highly recommend visiting for New Year’s. BUT- if this is a trip you may not take again, or if you won’t visit again for 10 years, it may not be worth it.
New Years Eve in Disney is BUSY but it’s so much fun. And a free way to have a great time- at least in girl math terms where you already paid the ticket prices, and now you et the celebration for free 🙂
Fireworks light up the sky above the front of Cinderella Castle, every country in Epcot throws a party, and the energy across the parks is unmatched. Just be prepared for long waits and huge crowds – if you’re planning to celebrate on New Year’s Eve, arrive early and stay patient.
After planning our trip, there is a lot to learn, but everything you need to know about spending New Year’s Eve in Disney World can be found in this post.
Best Time to Visit Disney World During Christmastime
If you want to experience the holiday season without battling long lines, aim for early November through the first two weeks of December. You may miss some of the decorations, but it will still be quite magical.
Crowds increase significantly closer to Christmas week and New Year’s Eve, but previous years have shown that weekdays before mid-December often have manageable wait times.
Arrive first thing in the morning, use Lightning Lane (Genie+ / FastPass) when possible, and plan breaks to soak in the holiday decorations and entertainment.

One weekend to look out for is the weekend when the Disney Christmas Spectacular is filmed. It’s never announced, but it’s usually the weekend before Veterans’ Day. Magic Kingdom is busy with people looking for celebrities, the castle is blocked off for filming, and it’s just a different experience. But, like New Years Eve, it can be so much fun if you are prepared for it! So keep this in mind!
Visiting Walt Disney World during the Christmas season is a great time for families to make magical memories. From the Festival of the Holidays to the Very Merry Christmas Party, there are endless holiday specials, shows, and surprises waiting across the Disney World hotels and parks.
Whether you’re watching the Christmastime Parade, tasting new types of cookies, or enjoying the story of Christmas told through music and light, the magic of Christmastime at Disney World will stay with your family long after you return home.
