Each of them has something unique to offer, but the top of the list would easily be the amazing Virginia wines, especially from the Leesburg wineries and the beautiful vineyards in the Northern Virginia area.

Nestled in the heart of Virginia wine country, Leesburg, in Loudon County, offers a wide variety of scenic vineyards, boutique wineries, and unforgettable wine experiences. Whether you’re a seasoned wine enthusiast or simply looking for a relaxing weekend escape, this area has something to satisfy every palate. It’s a great backdrop for celebrations, weddings, and more, but also for a fun day out with friends or a weekend away, enjoying great wine in a beautiful setting.
Over the years, we have done all of the above in every season. When my 30th birthday trip to Jamaica was canceled because of the pandemic, we quickly changed plans and booked a trip to Leesburg- which ended up being an amazing weekend! We have celebrated Mother’s Days, anniversaries, other birthdays, and even taken trips when we needed to simply be out of the house for a weekend.
It’s the perfect place for all of the above, especially when you visit the most beautiful vineyards on either a self-guided tour or one of the Leesburg winery tours in the area.
Here’s your guide to the best wineries in Leesburg and a sample itinerary for an ideal weekend of wine tasting.
Top Wineries To Visit Near Leesburg
This area of Virginia, also known as DC’s wine country, is known for national award-winning wines, warm hospitality, and a wide variety of wineries. It can be challenging to narrow down the best Leesburg wineries for your trip, so hopefully, this list will give you the details you need to create the perfect itinerary.
A family-owned, multi-venue estate with panoramic views, Stone Tower Winery, offers diverse wine options and distinct tasting facilities—one for casual gatherings and the other for reserve tastings. The property is absolutely beautiful, and they offer a wide variety of options during your visit, from guided tastings to winery tours and special events.
Reservations are not required for groups of 8 or fewer, though this could change, so check into it prior to arrival!
Set on a historic family farm, this vineyard delivers intimate tastings in a 19th-century house. The family started growing grapes in the early 2000’s and The farm property is large and offers many seating options for your tasting, including covered areas if the weather isn’t in your favor.
This property is 21+ and suggests reservations for a guaranteed seat. Picnics are welcome and are free to enjoy outside, if you would like to enjoy inside there will be a $5 per person fee.
Fabbili Cellars is a winery built on relationships. They have a network of family, friends and employees who work hard to keep the setting unique compared to others in the area.
Reservations are required and tasting areas are reserved for 21+. You are welcome to bring your own snacks to be enjoyed outside, and small plates are available inside the tasting room.
4. The Wine Reserve at Waterford
Offering panoramic views of the mountains, this boutique winery specializes in small-batch wines. The Wine Reserve is family- and pet-friendly, allows outside food, and offers cozy fire pits for cooler months. They also have fun igloo experiences in the winter and colder seasons. Throughout the year, the Wine Reserve has special events, like candlelit cocktail nights for Valentine’s Day. They also have The Wine Library, which is a beautiful and Instagram-worthy speakeasy space which can be reserved for groups of 6-10 people.
The tasting menu offers a unique experience as it’s served in test tubes. Reservations for indoor seating are available at no cost and reserve your space for up to 2 hours. All outdoor seating is first-come, first-serve.
As Loudoun County’s oldest winery, Willowcroft offers tastings in a historic barn, surrounded by stunning views from Catoctin Ridge. The estate vineyard offers delicious tasting options and you can opt for an education vineyard tour as well.
Wine & truffle tastings are offered, as well as a flight of wine if you aren’t interested in the full guided experience.
This boutique, family-owned winery focuses on handcrafted wines and provides a serene setting perfect for relaxation. The property is beautiful with sprawling vines, and property to roam with a glass of wine in hand.
Parties of 8 or more (including children) require a reservation and a small per person deposit, which will be applied as a credit during your visit. Outside food is welcome in outside areas. Educational vineyard tours are available for $15 per person and require reservations.
You can also opt to reserve a fire pit, it’s recommended that you submit your request in advance for the best chance of accommodation.
7. The Vineyards & Winery at Lost Creek
With a blend of modern and rustic ambiance, Lost Creek offers a tranquil environment to enjoy a variety of wines. The vineyard is located in Bluemont, Virginia, where the owners found the ideal plot of land based on a georloigsts recommendation. Here they create the highest quality of wine.
Tastings are offered inside Echelon Wine Bar in downtown Leesburg.
Set along the Potomac River, Tarara Winery is known for its beautifully designed tasting room and picturesque views. As one of the original wineries in the Northern Virginia area, Tarara continues to expand the events within the property to provide unique experiences during each visit. The Tarara Summer outdoor concerts brings in locals and visitors alike.
The property is family friendly and the Tarara Summer concert series is a must do in the summer! Be sure to purchase your tickets in advance for 21 and under and over!
Perched on a hill, Bluemont Vineyard offers breathtaking views of the Loudoun Valley and a wide selection of wines to savor. This vineyard offers truly incredible views, no matter the time of the year. Light fare is offered in the 951 Tasting room, as well as brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. Be sure to look into the upcoming events as Bluemont is always hosting something unique and fun.
The outside patio offers reservations for 2 or more.
A relaxed, dog-friendly atmosphere paired with quality wines makes 8 Chains North a great stop for a laid-back experience. Thier websites mentions that they “own it, grow it, make it and sell it” – supporting family-owned wineries, where everyone puts forth effort to build such a beautiful experience, fill me with so much joy! I love seeing a great, working farm. The property is absolutely beautiful and offers a great experience for everyone inside and out.
8 Chains North is family friendly, requires reservations for groups of 9 or more (but not small groups) and has a variety of tasting experiences. You can book a guided tasting, a self-guided flight, an elevated tasting which includes special barrel wines and charcuterie, or a chocolate tasting which pairs bon bons with each tasting. Food options are available for everyone, items like pretzels to mac and cheese.
This scenic vineyard offers stunning views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and features a full-service restaurant. Family and pet-friendly with plenty of outdoor seating, they also allow outside food in designated picnic areas.
Reservations are required for groups of 8 and above. Winery tours are offered when pre-scheduled. Tasting flights are offered on a tray for guests to be able to enjoy their wine anywhere on the property.
868 Estate loves to bring guests in and make them feel like home, which means they provide a full experience with special events throughout the year. From great live music to art shows, and fine wine with delicious food.
Known for its Bordeaux-style wines, Boxwood Estate Winery is a refined and modern destination. One of my favorite properties in the Northern Virginia area. The location is stunning, the glimpses into the process, the beautiful building, the great outdoor areas and the tasting areas will pull you in.
The property is 21+ and offers a few options for tasting options: The Cave Tasting, The Estate Pairing, the Celebration Experience and Group Tastings. While reservations are recommended, they are not required for tastings.
13. Breaux Vineyards
With views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Breaux Vineyards offers a serene setting and award-winning wines. Family- and pet-friendly, this vineyard allows outside food in picnic areas. Reservations are recommended on weekends.
Breaux Vineyards sits on over 400 acres of property in the valley, imagine the views! Groups of 6 or above require reservations. Outside food is welcome, but should be enjoyed in the outdoor areas of the property.
An exclusive 21+ vineyard offering a luxurious wine-tasting experience, Greenhill boasts stunning vineyard views and upscale ambiance. Another stunning property with sprawling hills, and a variety of seating options.
As mentioned, only guests over 21 are welcome. Outside food is not permitted indoors, and reservations are encouraged for smaller groups and required for groups 10 and above.
15. Corcoran Vineyards & Cider
A charming location that features both wine and cider tastings, Corcoran Vineyards is family- and pet-friendly. Outside food is allowed, and reservations are not typically required but are recommended for groups.
16. Doukénie Winery
Set on a beautiful estate with a lake, Doukénie Winery offers a relaxed atmosphere and approachable wines. They offer tastings of their rich wine blends.
Pet and family-friendly areas of available and perfect for picnics, though live music is generally offered in the 21+ areas. Reservations are recommended for tastings on weekends. Only groups of 8 or less are able to get seating. Outside food is not permitted.
They allow fishing in the pond during business hours, catch and release only.
This cozy, family-owned winery offers tastings in a rustic log cabin surrounded by woodlands. Tasting options include a flight, which can include the seasonal beverage if applicable, as well as table-side tastings which includes a guided tour of the wines.
Perched on a hill, this winery provides panoramic views of the countryside and offers both wine and beer. This family-owned winery believes in small-batch bottling to create intricate blends and thoughtful wine. With indoor and outdoor seating options, there is ample space to enjoy the vineyard. The views are stunning from the outside patio and seats along the vineyard.
Outside food is not allowed, though there are food options served on the premises. Reservations are not required but are encouraged for tastings with large groups. All ages are welcome, as well as leashed dogs in the outdoor spaces.
A casual yet scenic destination known for its stunning mountain views and robust wine selection. Naked Mountain allows outside food and is dog-friendly, with reservations recommended during busy weekends.
You can choose between wine flights, guided wine tastings, and group tastings, depending on the size of your group.
20. Notaviva Farm Brewery & Winery
Offering both craft beer and wine, Notaviva is a family-friendly spot for guests over 16 only with live music events and outdoor seating. They consider themselves an authentic and down-to-earth winery, built by family.
With wine available for purchase in puches rather than bottles, Notaviva Farm is replacing corks and heavy glass bottles in a mission to be more eco-friendly. Outside food is allowed, and reservations are optional.
21. Otium Cellars
Specializing in German-style wines, Otium Cellars offers a tranquil countryside setting with vineyard views. Families and pets are welcome on most of the property.
Outside food is permitted in the Bavarian room, and brick-oven pizza and additional offerings are available. Reservations are recommended for larger groups.
My last name means “fox” and we have one daughter, so this winery is special to us! This Tuscan-inspired vineyard features unique wine offerings and expansive grounds for picnics. Family-friendly and dog-friendly, Three Fox Vineyards allows outside food and has plenty of outdoor seating. They also offer beer!
23. Arterra Wines
Focusing on natural wines, Arterra Wines provides an intimate tasting experience surrounded by woodland views. This 21+ location does not allow outside food, and reservations are encouraged.
24. Bluemont Station
While this isn’t specifically a winery, it’s an amazing property in the Bluemont area. They offer a wide variety of drinks and food options, have outdoor games for the whole family and a historic home where you can do tastings.

Best Tours To See Leesburg Wineries
There are a few opportunities to see some of the amazing wineries listed above- and we have tried them all! My favorite option is hiring private transportation and opting for the specific wineries we would like to see, though all of the options are great when we aren’t the ones driving! However, that has worked many times before as well, as long as someone is willing to be the designated driver!

If you are hoping to see many wineries, all on your own time, I suggest following one of the below winery tour itineraries.
Itinerary One
- 10:00 AM: Willowcroft Farm Vineyards Start your day at Loudoun County’s oldest winery. Sip wines in their historic barn while soaking in the scenic views from Catoctin Ridge.
- 12:00 PM: Zephaniah Farm Vineyard Head to this charming, family-run vineyard for an intimate tasting experience in their 19th-century house. Learn about their rich history and winemaking process.
- 2:00 PM: Fabbioli Cellars Savor a unique wine and food pairing session. Their gourmet bites are carefully curated to complement their wines and change monthly, making each visit a new experience.
- 4:00 PM: Stone Tower Winery Conclude your day at this expansive estate. Choose between their casual and reserve tasting rooms and unwind with panoramic views of the vineyard.
Itinerary Two
- 10:00 AM: The Barns at Hamilton Station Vineyards Experience award-winning wines in the rustic charm of a refurbished 100-year-old dairy barn. The relaxed atmosphere is perfect for a Sunday morning.
- 12:00 PM: Casanel Vineyards & Winery Enjoy handcrafted wines in a peaceful, family-owned setting. Take your time to soak in the serene vibes.
- 2:00 PM: Otium Cellars Their tranquil setting and variety of wines provide the perfect afternoon escape.
- 4:00 PM: Bluemont Vineyard Cap off your weekend with breathtaking views of the Loudoun Valley. Bluemont Vineyard’s elevated location offers a memorable setting for your final tasting.
Itinerary Three
This itinerary only includes three, but it’s my recommendation for the most boutique experience for an adults-only winery tour.
- 10:00 AM: Bluemont Vineyard Start your day with breathtaking views of the Loudoun Valley. Bluemont Vineyard’s elevated location offers a memorable setting for your final tasting.
- 1:30 PM: Boxwood Estate Winery Book a guided food pairing experience at this beautiful winery near Middleburg.
- 3:30 PM: Stone Tower Winery End your day with a beautiful wine experience in the main building at Stone Tower. Gather around the fireplace and enjoy all that Virgina has to offer.
Tips for Your Leesburg Wine Weekend
- Plan Ahead: Many wineries recommend or require reservations, especially for groups or special tastings.
- Pace Yourself: With so many wineries to explore, it’s best to focus on quality over quantity. Limit yourself to 3-4 wineries per day to fully enjoy each experience.
- Stay Nearby: Leesburg offers charming inns, bed-and-breakfasts, and boutique hotels to make your weekend even more enjoyable.
- Designate a Driver: Alternatively, consider hiring a wine tour company to ensure safe and stress-free transportation between wineries.
- Bring Snacks: While some wineries offer food pairings, it’s always a good idea to have light snacks on hand.
- Visit Again: Once we found wineries we loved, we joined the quarterly wine club at a few wineries in order to encourage us to get away and come back.
- Visit The Towns: There are multiple small and historic towns in the Northern Virginia area, and the above Leesburg wineries are nearby. We really enjoy Middleburg a lot!

Best Places To Stay Near Leesburg Wineries and Breweries
I highly recommend staying in the Loudoun County area for your visit. With many of the wineries within a short drive, this is the most convenient place to land. We have stayed in many hotels in the area, as well as a few rentals, and have had a great experience in all of them!
Hotels In Northern Virginia
- Landsdowne Resort: We have stayed here on many occasions and love that it’s a whole resort property. The grounds are amazing, the restaurants are delicious and the amenities are worth it- especially in the warmer months!
- Holiday Inn Express in Historic Leesburg: This is a great, lower cost, option near Historic Leesburg.
- Tru by Hilton in One Loudoun: Another option where we continue to return! The One Loudoun complex offers a wide variety of restaurants and things to do, so it’s really nice to be in walking distance for dinner or activities if you aren’t only focused on wineries. The free breakfast offered is great!
Vacation Rental Homes In Northern Virginia
- Historic Estate with pool, hot tub, and 4 bedrooms. Steps from the Barns at Hamilton station vineyards.
- The Garage Mahal with a playground, 3 bedrooms and a beautiful large gym. Only a few minutes from Stone Tower Winery.
- Historic Hill with 3 bedrooms and a stunning property with a large outdoor patio for entertaining. 15 Minutes from Bluemont Vineyard and Bluemont Station.
Great Breweries in Leesburg
While the Leesburg wineries are all amazing options, not everyone loves wine, which is totally fine when there are delicious breweries in the area as well. We absolutely love mixing it up between breweries or cideries and wineries during our stay.

Focuses on traditional European-style beers, including German lagers and English ales. Located in downtown Leesburg.
Offers both craft beers and ciders, with a reputation for creative flavors and collaborations. Modern and vibrant space with frequent events.
A beach-themed brewery offering a variety of house-made beers and tropical vibes. We love the outdoor seating with sand, live music, and fire pits.
One of our favorite breweries in the area! It’s next to Bluemont Winery and across from Hemingway Hard Cider. The views are amazing and the property is very family-friendly!
Delicious Cideries in Leesburg
Specializes in small-batch, locally sourced ciders with bold, fruity flavors. They offer a cozy tasting room with an emphasis on sustainability.
As mentioned above, this location offers a delightful mix of wines and ciders, making it a versatile stop for groups. Picnics are welcome in outside areas, large groups are welcomed but required to have a reservation and the setting is family and pet-friendly.
Mt. Defiance produces a variety of ciders, including traditional, spiced, and fruit-infused options. They have a lovely outside area with beautiful views and a relaxed atmosphere.
A farm-focused cidery with a playful and creative cider blend with plenty of outdoor seating. They offer a family-friendly location with games and activities for everyone with a laid-back vibe.
