Are you planning a vacation to Costa Rica? Look no further than Las Catalinas in Costa Rica, an eco-friendly town that offers a perfect blend of tranquility, beauty, and adventure. Nestled just a 2-hour drive from Liberia airport, Las Catalinas is a stunning oasis that awaits you. Las Catalinas is an eco-community on the coast of Guanacaste Province in northwest Costa Rica. The small town doesn’t allow cars, is directly along a stunning strip of black sand beach, and has many coves to fully transport you into nature.

Hi there! Just a heads up- if you click on a link within this post I may receive a small commission. I appreciate your support of To Travel & Beyond and hope to bring you great recommendations for many years to come!

How To Get To Las Catalinas

As mentioned, it’s a 2-hour drive from the Liberia airport in Costa Rica, which would be your best option if you fly into the country. The views are beautiful from the plane! I highly recommend booking private transportation to get to Las Catalinas. It’s a bit of a journey, with sharp turns, bumpy roads, some detours if it’s recently rained and overall I prefer the comfort of traveling distances like this with only my travel party.

We had a great experience with private transportation to Las Catalinas, and the prices were comparable to those of group transportation.

Amenities

Las Catalinas offers a wide range of amenities to ensure a comfortable and memorable stay. Whether you’re looking to relax on the beach, explore the surrounding nature trails, or enjoy a yoga session with breathtaking ocean views, this eco-friendly town has something for everyone. The town also provides access to outdoor pools, wellness facilities, and ample opportunities for water sports, making it an ideal destination for those seeking both relaxation and adventure.

The black sand beach was stunning, and we really enjoyed the option of multiple pools. With water sports rentals and bikes available, it was a great mix of relaxation and adventure. You will also find great snorkeling areas, mountain bike trails, and stunning views from hiking points.

Restaurants

One of the highlights of a visit to Las Catalinas is the diverse culinary experience it offers. From local eateries serving up authentic Costa Rican cuisine to upscale dining with international flavors, the town’s vibrant restaurant scene has something to satisfy every palate. Whether you’re in the mood for fresh seafood, traditional dishes, or fusion cuisine, you’re sure to find a delectable selection of dining options to indulge in during your stay.

With multiple restaurants, cafes, and a small grocery store, I loved that we didn’t need to leave the property until we wanted to. It was a truly wonderful experience to be able to walk all over the small town.

Accommodations

Las Catalinas provides a range of accommodation options to cater to every traveler’s needs. From cozy, eco-friendly villas with stunning ocean views to luxurious beachfront homes equipped with modern amenities, there’s a perfect lodging choice for everyone. Whether you’re seeking a romantic getaway, a family vacation, or a solo retreat, Las Catalinas offers a variety of accommodation options designed to blend seamlessly with the town’s natural surroundings.

There are boutique hotels (Santarena Hotel) within the property, as well as numerous villas, with luxuries such as private pools, saunas, and beautiful outdoor dining spaces.

Excursions

There were plenty of nearby excursions to take advantage of- sunset cruises, surfing lessons, ATV tours, and zip lining, to name a few. We stayed in Las Catalinas for five days and participated in all three of the above, plus added a few more to the list for next time. Pro tip if you do the surfing lessons- they will take photos while you surf, so bring some extra cash!

Overall, it was a beautiful getaway in a quaint and beautiful town. A great location to kick off or end a Costa Rica vacation. If you are planning a vacation to Costa Rica, Las Catalinas is a place that truly allows you to embrace nature while enjoying the comforts of modern living. With its diverse amenities, culinary delights, and accommodation options, this eco-friendly paradise is a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a unique and enriching travel experience. Start planning your trip to Las Catalinas, and get ready to create unforgettable memories in this beautiful Costa Rican town.
