Planning Spring Break Vacations For Families – 2025 Guide
As a mom, I know the pressure to plan a memorable vacation for your family can be daunting. You want to take advantage of every school break while not breaking the “paid time off” or “PTO” bank, so to speak. I have spent countless hours researching amazing vacations only to get there and realize it didn’t really offer something for everyone.
Maybe we were too focused on hikes instead of relaxation and experiences for my daughter; others, perhaps we had too much relaxation (is there such a thing?!) built-in and not enough adventure, it can happen to everyone.
I created this guide to help fellow parents plan the perfect spring break vacations for families who are in need of some quality time, relaxation and, adventure.

Spring break is the perfect time for families to escape the routine and embark on an unforgettable adventure. It’s an ideal time to really escape your day-to-day, especially when you find some of the best places to go on Spring Break vacations for families.
Whether you’re looking for a sun-soaked beach getaway, an exciting city escape, or an outdoor adventure, I’ve rounded up the best destinations for families in 2025.
To make planning easier, I have included hotel recommendations across budget, mid-range, and luxury options, along with details on things to do, weather, and experiences that make each location special.
Finding the best places to go on Spring Break with family doesn’t have to be impossible, especially with such amazing places within a short flight, within and outside of the United States. As I mentioned, it’s helpful to make sure there is something for everyone.
I recommend starting with determining the types of travelers each member of your family is, and then narrowing down options from there. After establishing those deciding factors, focus on the type of Spring Break destination you want to experience. To provide more context, consider this below.
What To Consider When Planning Spring Break Vacations For Families
- Location, location, location. How far do you want to go for Spring Break? The distance is going to be a major factor in where you can make it within your spring break time frame. If I am dreaming big, anywhere can be on the list of spring break ideas, but if I am realistic, we will likely be limited to a flight 8 hours or less from our home.
- Transportation options. Do you want your main mode of transportation to be flying? Maybe a road trip is what you are hoping for? Do you want to fly somewhere and not drive a single minute until you are home? Maybe you are looking for places with great public transportation or even no need for a car!
- Bucket list considerations. Are you hoping to cross something off of your family bucket list? Maybe you have a goal to check off National Parks, see all 50 states, or visit a new country every year. If you have a family bucket list, take a look at it to see if anything is attainable based on Spring Break.
- Weather. Are you looking to escape the cold and hit the beach? Or maybe you want to leave the heat behind and visit a mountain town. Either way, you can find a great destination and have a great time as a family.
- Style of vacation. There are many vacation styles to consider for your spring break vacation:
- All-inclusive. Do you want to arrive to your destination and essentially not lift a finger unless it’s to eat a delicious meal or have a great frozen beverage? All-inclusives are not created equal as some with cater to outdoor adventures and others are all about relaxing. If you want everything done for you though, this is the
- Cruise. Similar vibes to an all-inclusive but you have the opportunity to see cities and possibly countries throughout your cruise. We have experienced both Caribbean and European cruises, and they are amazing. However, it has to be what you are going for. If you are more of a day trip traveler, this is a great option because you aren’t in each location for a long time.
- Guided group trip. There are group trip options for practically all over the world. I would suggest starting by narrowing down your ideal location and then looking for group tours in those directions. From Japan to Spain, Nicaragua to Antarctica, there are always group trips to experience.
- Adventure vacation. To be defined by your family, do you want to go horseback riding, see humpback whales, hike the Grand Canyon, and take advantage of the great outdoors? Traveling to an adventurous destination may be a better option than a full resort or cruise.
- Family vacation. While this can obviously be any of the above, I am including this as the option to go somewhere and do whatever you please in any location. This would be like a vacation to hop around and see National Parks in a few states, like a trip to Sequoia National Park, then Yosemite National Park, or a trip to Europe to hop around to various cities or countries while on your own time.
Best Spring Break Destinations for Families in the US in 2025
The United States has a ton to offer the whole family, which such a wide variety of options for some of the best family spring break destinations. The highest factor for deciding on which region of the US to visit will likely be the weather during the spring break in your area. I know for us in the south, our spring break is fairly early since school tends to end earlier than in other parts of the country. If we were to visit other areas of the US in early March or even through late march, we are in for a cold-weather place to go on spring break with family.
Keep all of the above considerations in mind as you read through the options below in North America.
