Prior to planning our trip, when I pictured Greece I thought about blue roofs and beautiful beaches. While we didn’t go to Santorini to get the full blue roof and white house affect, we absolutely got the beautiful beaches. We actually had this in several countries in addition to Greece, Italy for example, but the beaches of Argostoli, Greece were something out of a dream. Literally, I thought I should have been pinching myself.

As I mentioned before, I attempted to follow a loose plan while we were honeymooning. I am known to be an over-planner, so it was important to me (and VERY important to my husband) to leave things open for spontaneity. We wanted to experience things that were recommended by locals and other travelers, and then a few other travel blogs or Google searches.

One place that came highly recommended was Lassi Beach in Argostoli. The photos looked amazing, and we heard it was a nice place to relax. Even though I am incredibly happy with our trip, other options also sounded like great alternatives if we wanted a bit more adventure.

For excursions, taxis are readily available, or you can opt to rent a car, which is an excellent choice for exploring at your own pace. For a unique experience, the “Kefalonia Train” offers a charming and family-friendly way to tour some nearby sites. If you are willing to spend a little time figuring out schedules and routes, public transport is a great, inexpensive option.

Taxis: Taxis are available right by the cruise port and are generally reliable. Prices are fixed for some popular destinations, so ask for the fare before starting your journey.
Rental Cars: If you want to explore beyond the town, renting a car can be more economical and flexible, especially if you’re traveling in a group. Book in advance during the high season.
Public Buses: The bus service (KTEL) operates between Argostoli and major sites around Kefalonia, though schedules can be irregular, so it’s best to double-check timing at the station. There is a bus station directly outside of the port, which is in the heart of Argostoli.

You could also find other options like bus transportation or a boat tour. Depending on your end destination, and the amount of time available, a mix of all of the above might be worth it!

Only about a 10-minute drive away, Lassi is easily accessible, making it a perfect stop for those staying in or around the capital. If you’re arriving on a cruise, it’s a great place to spend a few hours soaking up the sun and swimming without venturing too far from the port. It’s a great spot for water sports!
- As mentioned, next to the lounge areas was a water sports hut with water skiing, tubing, jet skiing, etc. We debated taking part in one of these, but decided to just relax instead. We picked a set of chairs right on the water, and a waiter came over to ask if we wanted drinks. Why yes, we did want some coronas at 8 am on this beautiful sandy beach. We waited for our drinks in the most clear, beautiful water. We could see the fish below us swimming around the beautiful shells, and it was just perfect.
- Once we were back to lounging in our seats, we ordered some spanakopita (my favorite!!) and enjoyed the view for a few hours. I couldn’t have asked for a better location to spend our afternoon. Lassi was absolutely one of the highlights of our trip and my favorite beach day ever.
