What To Wear To Disney World In March – Outfits & Packing Ideas

Are you planning a trip to Walt Disney World for spring break? If so, you might be wondering what to wear to Disney World in March. Spring in Florida can be quite unpredictable in terms of weather, so it’s essential to be prepared for anything. Here are some tips on what to wear to Disney World in March to ensure that you have a comfortable and enjoyable visit.

While the weather can be unpredictable, visiting central Florida in the spring is a great time! The temperatures will likely be in the mid to upper 70s during the day and cooler in the 60s at night. If you are like me, the low 70s, (and definitely anything in the 60s) is a bit cold, so layers are extremely important. But more on that below! Before planning your March or Spring Break trip to Disney World, I would consider a few things: crowds (they will be high!), parks (if water parks are on the top of your list, it could be chilly when you are out of the water), where to stay (traffic will be bad off property, but a plus is Disney pools are heated!). If you are prepared for the crowds, it’s a good time of year to visit.

Things To Consider

There are multiple aspects to ensuring you have everything you need for the parks no matter the time of year. However, the March weather (or honestly any month in the spring) calls for its own accommodations.

1. Layered Clothing: March in Florida can bring varying temperatures, so it’s best to dress in layers. Start with a lightweight base layer like a tank top, then add a long-sleeve shirt, sweatshirt or sweater for warmth. This way, you can easily adjust your clothing to stay comfortable throughout the day. I’m a fan of a t shirt with a spirit jersey on top, then either leggings or shorts depending on the high temperature.

2. Comfortable Footwear: With so much walking involved at Disney World, comfortable shoes are a must. Choose a pair of well-cushioned, supportive sneakers or walking shoes. Make sure to wear them in advance to avoid blisters during your trip. I like to have a few options, Tevas are great for the warmer days, and tennis shoes are my choice when it’s a bit chilly. I really love my waterproof On Clouds since the rain could come and go as well.

3. Sun Protection: Florida sun can be strong, even in March. Don’t forget to pack a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen to protect yourself from harmful UV rays. I keep face sunscreen in the top of our stroller and always have a baseball hat or floppy hat on hand.

4. Rain Gear: March is part of the dry season in Florida, but occasional rain showers are still possible. Bring a compact, lightweight rain jacket or poncho just in case. While rain jackets are easier to wear, the storms usually roll through quickly, and I don’t love carrying wet jackets for the rest of the day, so ponchos are a great option! Grab a multipack and toss them after using.

5. Use a Backpack: We usually have a backpack and a fanny pack and take turns carrying them. It’s helpful to have a backpack to hold your top layer during the day, a small fan if it’s a random hot day, and the other park essentials listed below!

6. What’s Happening in March: Depending on the year and calendar, there are a few special events which could be occurring during your visit. The first is Flower and Garden Festival in Epcot which usually runs through the entire month of March and beyond.

7. Overall Park Experience for a March Trip: You may not want to experience water rides unless you visit when the average high temperature isn’t breaking 70, so if those rides are important, another time of year is a better option. As of today, these rides include Tiana’s Bayou and Kali River Rapids. Personally, I never think rapids are a good idea, but Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is a lot of fun!

8. General Information: The first week of March is more likely to be colder than the end of the month- the average daytime highs are often drastically different, so think that through. Perfect weather does not exist for a full week, but you will experience sunny days, warm weather, a lower than average rainfall, and a Disney trip- so it is worth it! You will forget all about the stress of managing your Disney packing list once you are in the most magical place on earth.

9. There May Be a Dress Code: A few on-site restaurants have a specific dress code that you should follow if you dine there. It’s important to look into these restaurants in advance to understand if you should change your Disney packing list in any way.

Packing Your Park Bag

I have a full post dedicated to what you should pack in your park bag (especially if you are traveling with littles!), but this is also a good highlight. Here’s a list of important things to pack in your bag for a day in Magic Kingdom:

  • MagicBands. Ensure you have your park tickets linked to your My Disney Experience account and grab your MagicBands for smooth entry and access to Multi Pass selections.
  • Sunscreen. As mentioned above, this is a must! Quite possibly the most important thing on this list- just because it’s colder does not mean the sun isn’t powerful!
  • Hat and Sunglasses.
  • Portable Phone Charger. Keep your phone charged to capture memories and stay connected throughout the day.
  • Snacks. Disney snacks are the best snacks, but it’s helpful to have. a few on hand as well!
  • Refillable Water Bottle: Stay hydrated by bringing a refillable water bottle to avoid purchasing drinks in the park.
  • Rain gear. Whether you go for a jacket or a poncho, keep it in your park bag!
  • Hand Sanitizer and Wet Wipes. Self-explanatory these days.
  • Mini First Aid Kit: Pack a few band-aids and pain relievers, just in case.
  • Handwarmers. I’m not kidding when I say that the weather is unpredictable. We have experienced the 40’s and 80s; I always have a hand warmer or two in my bag just so I’m not uncomfortable as we walk around.
  • Small handheld fan. Because, again, you never know.
  • Chapstick with SPF!
  • Compact travel umbrella

Outfit Ideas

I could write about Disney outfits for days. In fact, I have an in-depth post dedicated to all sorts of Disney outfits, but they are for all throughout the year. The below recommendations are based on traveling to Disney World in March and are exactly what I have worn and have packed for our spring weather trips. I have a love of all things Disney, I enjoy “Disney Bounding” as my favorite characters from time to time, and I am a sucker for Disney merch- so all of that slightly influenced the below recommendations.

Mickey & Friends Sweatshirt / Grey Sweatshirt / Navy Blue Sweatshirt / Pink Sweatshirt / Black Long Sleeve Shirt / Striped Long Sleeve / Green Long Sleeve / Rust Colored Long Sleeve / Tank Tops / Minnie Short Sleeve Shirt / Disney Button Up / Tangled Shirt / Minnie Shirt / Floral Short Sleeve / Navy Short Sleeve  / Mauve Short Sleeve / Jean Shorts / Green Shorts / Biker Shorts / Blue Skort / Black Athletic Skort / Light Jeans / Dark Jeans / Leggings / Joggers / Jean Jacket  / Rain Jacket / Pink Maxi Dress / Pink Tennis Dress / Tevas / On Clouds / White Sandals / Black Leather Mickey Ears

I also enjoy planning my outfits around which day I am going to which park, for example, muted nuetrals for Animal Kingdom, Toy Story or Star Wars themed for Hollywood Studios, or light blues and pinks for Magic Kingdom. I even take a look at the special events calendar to see if I should pack anything to match the time of year- for example, a floral shirt for the Epcot International Flower Festival or a cute Easter dress if our March trips fall in line with the holiday.

Packing List for Disney World in March

An ideal length of time for a stay in Walt Disney World vacation is 7 days, so this packing list provides everything you will need to pack for that amount of time. Keep in mind, after thinking through your personal vacation plans, the following may not be the best fit or cover everything you need, but it should at least be a good starting points. I highly recommend thinking through every item on the list and determining if it makes sense for you!

Clothing

  • At least 4 sweatshirts that can be worn with various outfits (or spirit jerseys if you want to rep Disney merch)
  • Light jacket for chilly early morning park days or nights, this could also be a rain jacket! I usually pack a jean jacket and a rain jacket
  • 4 tank tops (think base layer when needed for rainy days or the early march “winter months”)
  • 3-4 long sleeves shirts
  • 7 short sleeve t-shirt options
  • 5 pair of shorts or skorts
  • 4 pair of long pants (I usually pack 1-2 pair of jeans, leggings and joggers)
  • 2-3 dresses (these don’t need to be fancy but I usually bring a more casual option and a fancier option)
  • An extra outfit or two in case I need (or want) a change of clothes throughout the day
  • Undergarments
  • PJs (I bring a pair of sweatpants to throw over my PJs if needed, but I usually stick with shorts sets)

Footwear

Don’t be afraid to pack multiple pairs of shoes! I always do and I wear them all!

  • Tennis shoes (already broken in and read to do a lot of walking)
  • 2 pair of sandals (I bring one nicer pair and another for the parks. I prefer Tevas as they are comfortable walking shoes.)
  • Flip flops for pool hopping

Accessories & Other

  • Bathing suit (especially if you are staying at a Walt Disney World resort as all the resort pools are heated!)
  • Cover-up
  • Baseball hat, bucket hat or a sunhat
  • Jewelry
  • Hair accessories like ribbons, bows, and especially Minnie Ears!
  • Fanny pack (or belt bag if you are feeling fancy)

I have personally experienced multiple trips to Disney Springs while on vacation because there were cooler temperatures than what I had packed. So while that is an option, this list and information should help you avoid having to leave the Disney resort to get something you need attire wise.

Remember to check the weather forecast before your trip and pack accordingly. I would check a few apps and the local weather station on the resort TV to see what the weather will be as the generic weather app on my iPhone is often varied from what my husband sees on paid apps. And Florida weather can change in an instant!

In conclusion, planning for what to wear to Disney World in March can be a challenging experience, but visiting the parks will be delightful if you come prepared for the weather. Dressing in layers, wearing comfortable footwear, and packing sun protection and rain gear are crucial for a smooth and enjoyable trip. Being mindful of the park’s attractions and special events during your visit will also enhance your overall experience. By packing a well-stocked park bag with essentials like MagicBands, sunscreen, and snacks, you’ll be ready to make the most of your magical adventure at Disney World during the spring season. So, get excited and prepared for an unforgettable trip to the most magical place on earth!

By following these tips, you’ll be well-prepared for whatever early spring weather Disney World throws your way, allowing you to focus on enjoying the magic of the parks.
