• St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park: This popular spot features a variety of reptiles, including alligators, crocodiles, and even exotic birds. Don’t miss the thrilling zip line course!
• Pirate and Treasure Museum: Discover pirate artifacts, treasure, and interactive exhibits in this kid-friendly museum.
• St Augustine Beach: Spend some time at the beach for a relaxing afternoon of sandcastle building and swimming.

Where To Stay: The Sandpearl Resort near Clearwater is the best option for a true vacation vibe while not being far from Tampa.

Where To Stay: If you are visiting Walt Disney World or Universal Studios, I highly recommend staying at either a Disney resort (read more about them here!) or Cabana Bay (pictured below).

A quick two-hour drive from Jacksonville, Orlando is packed with world-famous theme parks, making it a go-to destination for families. There are so many things to do in Orlando and the surrounding areas, you could easily fill multiple days with fun experiences. 

Things to Do:

• Walt Disney World: Even if you can’t do everything in one trip, you can still experience the magic of Disney’s Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, or Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
• Universal Studios Florida: Another theme park favorite, Universal offers exciting rides and experiences based on popular movies, from Harry Potter to Minions.
• ICON Park: This entertainment complex features The Wheel, a 400-foot observation wheel that gives stunning views of Orlando. It’s a great way to see the city from above.
• Gatorland: Known as the “Alligator Capital of the World,” this park offers an interactive and educational experience with tons of reptiles, shows, and even opportunities to feed the animals.
• Visit Nearby Cities: Central Florida is a hidden gem for amazing things to do!

Daytona Beach, Florida

Where To Stay: The resort vibes are amazing at the Hard Rock Hotel Daytona Beach.

If you’re looking for a beach getaway, Daytona Beach is only about 1.5 hours away from Jacksonville and offers a great mix of beach time and attractions.

Things to Do:

• Daytona International Speedway: For families with racing fans, a visit to the famous Daytona 500 track is a must. You can take a tour and explore exhibits about racing history.
• Daytona Beach Boardwalk: The classic beachside boardwalk has games, rides, and food stands, making it a fun stop for kids of all ages.

Where To Stay: If you are looking for a historic stay, the McMillion Inn would be perfect!

Just over 2 hours from Jacksonville, Savannah is a charming Southern city with beautiful parks, cobblestone streets, historic homes, and plenty of family-friendly things to do.

Things to Do:

• Forsyth Park: This large park is perfect for a picnic or a family stroll. The famous fountain is a great photo opportunity!
• Savannah History Museum: Located in the former Savannah Railroad Depot, this museum is a great place for older kids to learn about the city’s history and culture.

Amelia Island, Florida

Recommended Visit Length: 1-2 Days (1 Night)

Where To Stay: We have stayed in multiple hotels within the Amelia Island area, two of our favorites are the Omni for access to the beach and the property amenities, and the Hampton Inn & Suites in the historic district for it’s location to downtown.

Just a 30-minute drive from Jacksonville, Amelia Island/Fernandina Beach is an idyllic beach destination perfect for a quick family getaway. It offers a mix of outdoor adventures, history, and relaxation. It’s truly a great weekend getaway! 

Things to Do:

• Fort Clinch State Park: This historic fort offers guided tours where kids can learn about its Civil War history. There are also nature trails and a beautiful beach for family fun.
• Amelia Island Museum of History: Kids can learn about the island’s history, from the Timucuan natives to its pirate past, through fun and interactive exhibits.
• Beach Time: Amelia Island is known for its uncrowded, pristine beaches. Spend time building sandcastles, flying kites, or enjoying the calm waters.
• Visit During a Festival:
  • Wild Amelia Nature Festival: If you’re visiting in May, don’t miss this nature festival which celebrates the island’s wildlife with activities for kids, including nature walks and wildlife encounters.

Where To Stay: We have really enjoyed staying at Mills House Charleston. It’s in a great location, is a nice family hotel and offers nice amenities.

About a 4-hour drive from Jacksonville, Charleston offers a charming Southern escape filled with history, beautiful streets, and family-friendly experiences.

Things to Do:

• South Carolina Aquarium: Explore exhibits featuring marine life from the Atlantic Ocean and other local ecosystems. The interactive touch tanks are great for kids.
• Charleston Waterfront Park: Take a walk along the water, where kids can enjoy the famous Pineapple Fountain and have a fun time running around the park.
• Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum: This museum lets families explore historic ships, including the USS Yorktown aircraft carrier. Kids will love the chance to explore and climb aboard these massive ships.
