Swimming And Biking in Korcula, Croatia

korcula, Croatia

If you want to see a very small european town in Korcula, Croatia is the place to go. Before we arrived, we were told that you could walk the entire city in under 5 minutes, we thought this could be an exaggeration…it wasn’t. But a smaller city, does not mean anything when it comes to charm and character. This was the only stop that we needed to be “tendered” into the town, which meant our ship anchored out at sea, and we took these tiny orange boats into the dock. It was nice to have a quick ride with some new people, we were able to meet some others we were sailing with and then take in another beautiful city.

Korcula, Croatia Some of the places were still opening when we arrived, but there was a bike and scooter shop open. Dave went straight for the bike rentals, and asked where we could explore for a few hours before coming back to see the town. There were several beaches recommended to us, and we aren’t ones to turn down some sunbathing. Off we went through some very hilly streets, thankfully they weren’t very busy and I could take my time (as Dave flew past me). As we passed a beautiful hotel (which we later found out is called Marko Polo, if you ever want to visit) we could see a sandy beach in the distance that was getting busy, so that is where we decided to park our bikes and take a dip.

There were so many children playing ball, adults tossing around a volleyball, and other just floating around. This way of life was so appealing to me. Even though the children couldn’t understand what we were saying to them, they would throw their balls to us to get us to play. I did that for a little while and Dave swam a bit. A little further out was a tiny island and there were several people scuba diving around it. Next trip to Europe I need to being some snorkeling gear!

Korcula, Croatia There was a small cafe right next to the beach serving espresso, Cokes and pizza. A little behind the cafe was a fancy restaurant overlooking the water, and what seemed like apartments right behind it. This little cove was the perfect spot to start the day. Once we dried off, we headed back to town, then passed the town to explore a little more. We checked out the marina, a beautiful view of our ship and then back to the town we went. You really could see it all in a few minutes. It was getting crowded though, so we headed towards the waterfront.

We also aren’t ones to turn down another chance to swim in this amazing blue water, so back in we went. It was really fun to be able to sit on the rocks and admire the beautiful mountains around us, and swim whenever we wanted. It was the perfect afternoon!
